Make sure all menus are wiped down, free of spots or stains, and complete.
Make sure entry doors are clean, free of debris and inviting.
Check with phone reservationists, or answering machine messages to assure you have all reservations.
Check with manager to assure there are no large or private parties you do not know about.
Check with kitchen to see where they stand. See if they are behind or if they are out of anything.
Plan out the seating chart and organize the reservations (planning is everything when running an effective host stand).
Greets guests, escorts them to their table, pull seat out for the ladies, and present menus.
Make sure the server is aware they have been sat.
Keep the counts for individual server so things come out fair at the end of the night
Keep in constant contact with the servers and the kitchen to make sure you are not putting them in the weeds. A hostess job description does not include running a smooth shift, but it does separate the good from the great. A large part of the night’s effectiveness is orchestrated from the host stand.
Keep an eye out that the dining room, entryway, bathrooms, and menus are kept clean throughout operations.
Say good-bye to all of the guests. Check to see that everything was wonderful. Not only is the host or hostess the first impression the guest gets when they come to an establishment they are also the last. You should check with every guest and if there was any kind of problem quickly get a manager.
At the end of the shift you may want to do the server ant restaurant tallies.
Some establishments may also have you be a cashier as well.
Pay will be all over the map depending on where you are working and what is expected of you, but you can expect somewhere between $7-$15 per hour plus a percentage tip out from the wait staff.
The host or hostess description will very from restaurant to restaurant but this should give you a good idea of what to expect going in or what you should expect from your host personnel.
Guest Services:
The Guest Service Host/Hostess will be assisting guests by giving verbal instructions or information in person or on a multi line telephone. The Guest Service Host/Hostess must be courteous and professional and use good judgment when answering questions. Specific questions from guests may need to be directed to other departments or managers if needed.
The Guest Service Host/Hostess must provide current Park information. The Guest Service Host/Hostess must be knowledgeable on ticket structure and pricing, coupons, promotions, opening and closing times, park rules, park policies, park procedures, park amenities, etc.
The Guest Service Host/Hostess must have the ability to handle cash, operate P/C and AS400 computer programs, as well as to count back change in accordance to Lagoon’s cash handling and cash control policies and procedures. Guest Service Host/Hostess will be accountable for accurate cash, ticket, and coupon controls.
Guest Service Host/Hostess will perform daily cleaning of both inside and outside before, during, and after operational hours. Cleaning duties will include washing windows, sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters, cleaning garbage receptacles, empting garbage cans, etc.
The Guest Service Host/Hostess must monitor and respond to inappropriate guest behavior, including enforcing rules and restrictions, regulating guests’ actions, and requesting assistance from Security and the Guest Service Supervisors if necessary.
The Guest Service Host/Hostess will operate locations during normal and unusual conditions.
Guest Service Host/Hostesses must exhibit a high degree of motivation toward ensuring guest satisfaction by displaying an aggressively friendly approach to serving guests. In addition, the Guest Service Host/Hostess must be able to deal with many guests each day in a positive and friendly manner
The Guest Service Host/Hostess must have excellent guest service skills, which may include the handling of various complaints or grievances from our guests. The Guest Service Host/Hostess must be able to remain calm in stressful situation and assist the guest in any complaint or grievance that they may have.
Guest Service Host/Hostess will staff the Strollers and Stuff location which serves as the Park lost and found as well as sells strollers, wagons, wheel chairs, and various other sundries. Guest Service Host/Hostess will log lost and found items while stationed in this location.
Guest Service Host/Hostess will assist Admissions Attendants as needed. These duties will include greeting guests, taking tickets and season passes, properly stamping hands, enforcing park polices, and providing a good first impression.
Guest Service Host/Hostess will be working in various locations and must be knowledgeable in all assigned work stations.
During training periods, the Guest Service Host/Hostess must be able to read and assimilate information provided in the Guest Service Manual and the Seasonal Employee Handbook, and comprehend verbal instructions from the training Guest Service Supervisor.
