Highlights of Qualifications

More than 5 years experience in steel making, ingot/continuous casting, rolling, forging and heat treatment processes covering metallurgy, quality, inspection and process development.

Three years experience as consultant covering Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Steelmaking, Continuous Casting, and Quality Management.

Responsible for the planning, identification, supervision, implementation, trial, evaluation, testing and reporting of product and process improvement/changes .

Serviced customers to monitor/evaluate product performance, review specifications and resolve technical aspects of claims.

Performed metallurgical tests and evaluation of product failures. Discussed with operating personnel implementation of measures to correct nonconformities, resolve quality problems and meet customer requirements.

Managed all aspects of metallurgical testing, process/quality control and inspection to ensure products meet company, industry and customer requirements.

Implemented Statistical Process Control in the production areas which monitored key product and process parameters; reviewed results and presented summary report during the monthly Plant Quality Committee meeting.

Participated actively in developing, implementing and auditing the Quality System and Manuals in accordance with ISO 9000 requirements.

Established new material’s specification and evaluation procedure, directed verification, acceptance and test procedures for current materials.

Coordinated with Corporate Research and Development staff for technical support on continuous improvement projects and product/process development.

Analyzed manufacturing process, led and implemented quality, cost reduction and productivity/continuous improvement projects:

1. Revised teeming plate refractories which improved ingot mold life by 5%.

2. Modified teeming practices which increased ingot yield by 6%.

3. Implemented system for returning excess melt to the EAF which reduced waste/scrap rate.

4. Developed surface defect inspection that reduced inspection time and cost by 50%.

5. Prepared feasibility study and supervised installation of water-cooled panels for the EAF walls and roof which reduced refractory usage and cost.

6. Prepared feasibility study and directed installation of oxy-fuel burners for the EAF which improved productivity and reduced power consumption.

7. Implemented calcium wire injection during in ladle to improve bloom/billet quality.

8. Implemented real time rolling and forging temperature measurements and data logging which resulted in better quality products.

Chaired corporate wide Total Quality Management Program

Coordinated Manufacturing Energy Conservation Program, Awarded Steel Industry Energy Manager of the Year (1986) by the DOE.

Chaired Plant Quality Committee which resolved quality issues, reviewed quality performance and set quality objectives. .

Participated in corporate technical meetings, process development projects, plant visits in affiliate plants in USA, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Italy, Peru and Philippines.

Member of Plant Environment, Health and Safety Committee which performed regular plant inspections and audits.

Member of Project Team for the construction and start-up of the continuous caster. Trained Inspectors on bloom/billet defects and caster operating personnel on quality aspects of continuous casting.

Member of Environment Committee of South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute and

participated in technical meetings, studies and plant visits in Japan, Korea, Malaysia,

Singapore and Philippines.
