ACADEMIC PROJECT:
HIGH RESOLUTION ANALOG DATA ACQUISITION IN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT USING 16-BIT AI BOARD.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The main aim of the project is to convert temperature from the nuclear reactor into digital form and reading it through a pc based system so that an automatic control is possible to adjust the temperature within allowable limits. A 16-bit analog to digital converter is used for the conversion. Resolution means the smallest change that can be able to detect. A 16-BIT AI board therefore can detect 1/2 to the power 16 = 1/ 65536 which is equal to 0.15 mV. So if there is 1 bit change in digital data it corresponds to .15 mV changes in analog data. The IO controller reads the digital data from the board. Depending upon the data read the controller decides what decision has to take like raising the temperature or lowering it. The 16-BIT board, which we have designed, is able to monitor 32 channels temperatures. Out of these 32 channels 2 channels are taken as reference and connected to internal voltage generator. This is required to check the healthiness of the board each time computer reads the data from the board. As there are 302 channels in nuclear reactor a total of 11 boards are required for the temperature control.
