$9 million newspaper company that publishes local news for the city of Philadelphia.
Controller - Recruited to improve financial records and reduce significant outstanding receivables for eight year old company. Within one year, was given financial authority over the Metro Boston paper, in addition to Philadelphia. Overall responsibility for financial operations and accounting in both Philadelphia and Boston- including preparation of annual budget, monthly forecasting, financial analysis, monthly closing of books and coordination with auditors.
Staff: Five direct reports in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable departments
• Within six months, developed a plan to decrease outstanding receivable balance by 30%.
• Transitioned shared US Accounts Payable department from NY to Philadelphia to reduce overhead costs and to establish better relations with key vendors.
• Created new account reconciliation reports for all balance sheet accounts in order to eliminate outstanding errors and problems.
• Worked as the main liaison with financial institutions to develop better overall banking and credit card processing options for the cities- including establishment of zero-balance accounts and elimination of expensive lockbox processing.

Manage four departments in the Finance Division – Advertising Accounting, Credit and Collections, Accounts Receivable and Customer Service.
Staff: Four direct reports that manage a total of 50 employees.
• Responsible for accurately reporting $300 million in advertising revenue annually.
• Reviewed all journals, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance explanations for advertising revenue, cash and bad debt/collection expense.
