PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Software Engineer May. 2002 – Aug. 2006

Hotgen Technology Co. Ltd, Beijing, China

• Designed and implemented Software solutions for Hospitals and health institutes, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Diagnostic Reagents Records and electronic prescriptions, etc. Systems are mostly implemented with .NET and SQL Server. (PHP, ASP.NET and C#)

Java Developer Oct. 2004 – Aug. 2006

Software Engineering Institute, ECNU, Shanghai, China

• Designed and implemented Faculty/Student Evaluation System and Department staff Managing System. (Java, JSP, JavaScript, HTML and SQL Server 2005)

Engineering Intern Aug. 2006 – Dec. 2006

G.K. Technology, Shanghai, China

• Implemented an on-line stock managing system (C++, ASP.NET, SQL Server). The system is designed on Linux systems. Responsible for database connection implementation and software installations on Linux systems. Participated in Graphical User Interface implementations.

China Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China

• Designed and implemented algorithms for function areas comparison on human genomes (Perl, C++, Java, SQL). Worked with UNIX systems. Build a SQL Server database for the Computational Biology Department and served as a database administrator. Deployed on a Tomcat server.

Aug. 2007 – Dec.2009

University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL, USA

• A two phase protein sequence clustering algorithm using functional domain information – Designed and implemented a two phase hybrid clustering algorithm which can parse a large protein sequence database and perform clustering on sequences based on pairwise-alignment similarity. The kernel learning model is Hidden Markov Model (C++, Perl, Matlab)

• Classifying Drosophila embryonic developmental stages based on the ISH images – Designed and implemented an algorithm for image classification. The algorithm is based on applying stage-of-art image wavelet filters to retrieve the texture features from Drosophila embryo images. Gabor filters and Support Vector Machines are introduced and implemented in the algorithm (C++, Matlab)

• Automatic detection of protein domains and a fast algorithm to cluster large protein databases – Designed and implemented an algorithm for protein domain detection and a clustering based on the domain information. A novel statistic strategy is adopted to detect the domains of all sequences from a large protein database without local alignments. Developed protein domain search web service on Apache. (C, C++, C#, ASP.NET, and HTML).

• An on-line image ranking system – Designed and prototyped an on-line image ranking system using C++, XML and PHP. The system provides different ranking methods to online users and can incorporate the user feedbacks to enhance the results. (C++, XML, and PHP)

• A factory managing system – Implemented a factory managing system using Java with design patterns. It can add, delete, move, edit, rename, open, and close machines and machine groups; “undo” and “redo” functions are supported. (Java)

• A fast algorithm for solving the classical 8-puzzle problems ¬– Designed and implemented a window game system to solve the classical 8-puzzle problems (C++).

Miscellaneous

• Developed a college faculty and student profile system with C# and SQL Server. The profile system allows add, remove, edit and group employee information and provide different access level to different users. (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server).

• Designed and implemented a home page for Dr. Pengfei Wang’s lab in UAB. (JSP, HTML).

• Designed and implemented an elevator controlling system; the system use multi-threading techniques to control elevator shafts and adopt optimal strategies to answer user calls (Java).

• Developed an on-line library system. The system utilizes client-server architecture and provides login, authentication, book-checking, etc (Java, VB.NET, SQL Server, and JSP).

• Wrote an on-line 3D tank battle game which support human users to interact with computer users in the game. (Java, JSP)

• Developed a temperature conversion web service (Java) on Apache

• Developed test cases with JUnit.

HONORS & AWARDS

• 2nd Place of the ACM Mid-Southeast Conference Student Paper & Presentation Competition, 2007
