Performed duties on various USAID funded projects. Major duties included monitoring and reviewing the design and construction of various infrastructure projects as designed and built by other consultants and contractors. The projects comprised of buildings for schools, health units, residential and commercial, roads and bridges and water supply schemes. Prepared and reviewed detailed design, tender documents and cost estimate for the projects. Worked with a Joint Venture of multi-national group comprising of Mott MacDonald Ltd, UK; Sogreah Consultants SAS, France; Nippon Koei Co., Japan, Mott MacDonald Ltd, Pakistan, for the feasibility study, detail engineering design and preparation of tender documents for Bunji Hydropower Project in the northern part of Pakistan with an installed estimated capacity of 5400 MW, dam height of above 200 meters, gross head to turbine of about 420 meters and reservoir capacity of about 300 million cubic meters. Performed and accomplished a number of assignments including design, drawings drafting, engineers estimate, specifications and tender documents, QA and QC, and administration.

Chief Engineer 2006 – 2007

ILF, LAHORE, PAKISTAN

Worked with ILF (Pvt.) Limited, a German based firm with offices all over the world. Performed and accomplished various duties on different projects including technical proposal, feasibility studies, detailed design of hydro-power projects (two numbers serial schemes with capacity varying from 400 MW to 1200 MW and one with capacity of 4500 MW), a technical proposal for a 800 km long rail-road project from Pakistan to China border, and from conceptual to FEED to detailed design for new and existing projects (a total 2 no.) of Natural Gas Compression projects for local (OGDC) and European (OMV) clients. Also, worked in the office of Europe (Austria) and prepared technical proposals for the above hydro-power projects. I was shifted to Guyana on a temporary freelance posting of three weeks on behalf of Louis Berger Group, Washington D.C., USA during my this job. I worked in Guyana as a Lead Bridge Structural Engineer and performed the duties of condition survey of about 50 bridges on a 80 km long highway and proposed their repair works and presented a report to the local ministry of public works for approval.

Head Design – Chief Engineer 2004 – 2006

MANGLA DAM RAISING PROJECT – Joint Venture of NESPAK, ACE, BARQAAB, Binnie, UK, MWHA, USA – Lahore, Pakistan

Accomplished the structural design of different buildings (Schools/Colleges, Mosques, Gymnasiums, Shopping Plaza, Post Offices, Hospitals, Vocational Training Centres and other structures for a NEW City (1400 acres) comprising 8000 houses for resettlement. Reviewed and prepared specifications, construction and shop drawings for dams, spillways, intake and other miscellaneous structures including instrument houses, drainage galleries, retaining walls, access stairs and temporary buildings. Review of design and construction of two (2) segmental box bridges of 140 and 170 metres long main span and various culverts along the bypass and diversion roads, and primary and secondary roads of New City. Reviewed method statements, concrete mix design, roller compacted concrete construction for emergency spillway and other submissions from the contractor regarding design and construction of structures. Inspected and proposed repairs of existing dam appurtenant structures including stilling basin of main spillway and expansion joints.

Principal Engineer, Structures 2003 – 2004

AKHORI DAM PROJECT (FEASIBILITY STUDY) – Joint Venture of Techno Consult International, Karachi and HPE, Germany – Lahore, Pakistan

I prepared various layouts, alternates and sections of the dam. Prepared preliminary design, structural drawings, and engineer’s estimates for the appurtenant and other relevant structures for the feasibility study of this dam. Also, was involved in the collection of field survey data and design of structures on the canal for water conveyance to the dam.

Civil/Structure Engineer 2001 -2003

SABRA, WANG and Associates, INC. – Baltimore, Maryland, USA

I worked on the review and structural design of various types of retaining walls including cantilever, MSE, and soldier piles and lagging walls. Prepared estimates, special provisions, detail construction drawings and bid documents. Performed 2001 City of Baltimore Biennial Inspection of Bridges (inspected 70 bridges of single to multiple spans of different types) and other inspected other various major bridges over roads and railroads. Prepared reports, structural inventory and appraisal (SIA), PONTIS and performed the load rating analysis of various bridges. Have prepared the details of reinforcement for the acute and obtuse angled abutments and wing-walls of a 3 spans skewed bridge at MD 43 and also inspected the electrical manholes (total 30) at different streets. The blowout details and inspection reports for these manholes were prepared for submission to the client.

Civil/Structural Engineer 2000 - 2001

RJM ENGINEERING INC. – Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Performed hydraulic design for the adequacy of drainage channels including culvert design on the roads/highways of Virginia and Maryland, and used hydraulic design software. The structural design of maintenance yard buildings for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) was performed. The inspection and rehabilitation of passenger stations (Total 6) and aerial structures (Total 315 Box Girders and Piers) for MTA Metro elevated rail line was completed bid documents including drawings and special provisions was prepared. A preliminary design of multi span bridge over a road for Maryland Department of Transportation was worked out. Also, worked as a project engineer on the construction and rehabilitation of six city streets (total 4km) and construction of new Water Main on four streets (total 3 km length).

I Worked on a 300 Km long high pressure petroleum pipeline project in Punjab, Pakistan owned by PARCO. Duties included designing buildings, storm and sewer drainage systems, overhead and underground pipeline crossings over deep rivers, streams and creeks, heavy vessels and equipment foundations, pipe’s supports, stress block anchors and various equipment/pump sheds at the terminal/pumping stations and along the pipeline. Design deep steel piled foundations (driven) for the static and dynamic loading in the cohesive and carbonates soils. The foundations for vibration under heavy pumps were designed.

Senior Structural Design Engineer 1993 - 1995

PEHUR HIGH LEVEL CANAL & SWABI SCARP CONSULTANTS (an affiliate of Joint Venture of Binnie & Partners U.K., Lahmeyer International GmbH Germany, HTS U.K., NDC & BAK Pakistan) – Peshawar, Pakistan

I worked on the construction, design, extension and rehabilitation of two (2) different irrigation projects funded by the Asian Development. Duties included designing buildings, bridges, roads, retaining walls and causeways including their shallow and deep foundations. Prepared and developed EXCEL spreadsheets for the complete structural design and calculation of materials quantities for single span RCC Slab and Girder bridges including their abutments. Designed hydraulic structures on main canals, water courses, minors and distributaries including Head works, Regulators, Bifurcators/Trifurcators, Siphons, Aqueducts, Culverts, Weirs, Outlets, Stilling Basins/Wells, Falls and Rapids, Gated Structures.
