MFE (Financial Economics); MLC (Life Contingency)

EXAM C (Construction of Models); FAP IA

EXPERIENCE

◆ May 2009-Aug 2009

Internship in Statistics and Evaluation Department, American Cancer Society (ACS), Atlanta. While working as an intern in ACS, my major job is to apply various statistical models using statistical software SAS and R to evaluate the existing breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer models and develop my own models to improve and compare with the original model. The main purpose of these models is to investigate the effect of cancer screening and prevention. It is a joint work of ACS with American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Heart Association (AHA) so that guidelines can be provided for the heath care system.

◆ Aug 2008- May 2009

Work within the group of Statistics with Global Warming, use statistical software R to develop models on global warming, investigate the factors that contribute to global warming, apply multiple regression models to identify the relationship between carbon dioxide (CO2) in atmosphere and CO2 emission from various sources. Time series technique is also applied to predict CO2 in atmosphere. During this period, I was also working in the cancer research group, using decision tree, survival analysis, Markov chain models to analyze survival time, relapse time, and stages of breast cancer.

◆ Aug 2005-Mar 2007

Graduate Assistant in the department of mathematics and statistics, USF

Tutor college students with mathematics and teach help sessions in various courses including: college algebra, introductory statistics, and business calculus. The teaching experience gives me a great opportunity to learn to communicate with the students effectively and be able to take the large classroom under control.

◆ Jun 2004-Aug 2004

Member of the mathematics of finance and economics summer camp

Learned several courses on mathematics of finance and economics such as econometrics, asset pricing and advanced economics and developed the interest in actuarial science.
