After being part of the Intel 80386 introduction, was hired as an Intel Field Applications Engineer for a pre-sales customer project management focus to build long-term relationships in a multi-state territory (was the youngest in history at 24). Successfully managed all Intel products, resources, factory teams, & distribution to double territory revenue every other year to over $200M per year. Cemented long-term mutual business relationships to help Intel launch world-changing products / programs including: the 80486 family, the Pentium family, Flash memory, video on computers, and ‘Intel Inside’. Co-managed personnel of over 30 dedicated distribution sales / technical staff, six Intel Sales Engineers, and added third party manpower as required. Find, close, and support very complex business deals. Was responsible for spearheading the creation of design-winning solutions to solidify relationships with: Dell, AT&T, the Navy, the Army, the FAA for all aircraft flying today, Chrysler, Gateway, GE, QMS, Martin Marietta, the largest contract manufactures (SCI, Jabil, Avex, etc.), and more. In the last decade: managed development of ‘Digital Home’ advancements, led validation of PCI Express (PCIe has more speed to replace the general-purpose PCI bus, the high-end PCI-X bus, and the AGP graphics card interface), directed the creation of partnerships who enabled PICMG advanced switching validation (asi-sig.org, the PCIe driven serial network upgrade to USB for applications needing more speed), launched IC/system design verification with industry leaders, and introduced much faster less costly parallel PC simulation on network clusters.

Most recently led many video projects. Often the goal is effective advertising online or to spread information over the Internet. Was part of the Intel team who introduced video on computers to the world with DVI in the late 80’s and later with Indeo Video in the early 90’s (then the poor media quality failed to have mass appeal). Now sufficient multimedia technology exists for video systems to create profitable solutions. Fashion targeted advertising combined with video(s) for maximum impact (without glitches such as the usual delayed start-up then intermittent sputter).

=> Account Management (lead sales, customer support, contracts, new solution definition, and proof of new technology projects to close deals). Helped start-up companies with sales, distribution, customer support, staffing and funding. Including: Avery Design Systems (Global Field Sales Manager), Cascade Semiconductor (Management Consultant), AngelVision (VP Customer Support & Sales), Enuclia (one of the three founders before I backed out), and others not so well known.

=> Direct IT hardware / software projects including: budgets, staff, and timelines. Lead complex project/territory teams of up to over 95 people including contractors, overseas resources, and third party software integration. => Introduced verification / validation automation. Prospect to sell a $50K/copy enterprise software product; called Specman Elite, it doubles the speed of creating ICs and systems. Proved use could over double the speed of IC/system design with the same manpower over normal HDL/C methods. Integrated Specman into other 3rd party software like Red Had Linux, Cisco Systems, SUSE, HPUX, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys VCS, Cadence, etc.

=> Managed project teams to prove value so close sales contracts with multi-year guaranteed income from Intel, PMC-Sierra, Cisco Systems, and others. This was critical to taking the company public in 03/21/01 to become the #1 IPO stock in the USA in 2001 and a major reason why Cadence pay $280M a few years later 01/2005.

=> With sales <$1M the year before, hired the needed key field staff to power rapid growth.

=> Led project team to create verification environment to transfer first Intel Arapahoe bus packets finding many specification bugs to perfect what is now known as PCI Express (PCIe replaces PCI, PCI-X, & AGP graphics).

=> Pre and Post Sales customer design project support for SmartModel and SourceModel libraries (Verilog, VHDL, and C++) of simulation models used with all top EDA third party software to maintain 95% market stare. Made LMG tools run well with Mentor, Cadence, Viewlogic, Synopsys, Altera, Lattice, Xilinx, with others on all UNIX networks driven by HP, SunOS, Solaris, and RS6000 as well as Win32 PCs (Windows NT) computers.

=> Responsible for field management of global company resources to close sales of all Intel products: chips, boards, systems, software, networks, and third party solutions.

=> Pre-sales project managed worldwide Intel resources to prospect then close all sales of the 386 family, the 486 family, the Pentium family, Overdrive, FLASH, Intel PCs, UNIX on PCs, PCI, Digital Video Interactive (DVI), Indeo video (quality depends on computer CPU speeds), many PLDs, the 960 family, 860, the 196 family, PCMCIA, and more. Provide the front like of customer support for all territory problems with chips, boards, systems, software, languages, development tools, and emulators.

=> From '89 to '91 managed projects to double revenue in North/Central Florida. In '91 territory expanded to also include Alabama and Mississippi where sales doubled again. Co-managed six direct sales people, shared office staff, and up to 32 dedicated to Intel distribution sales people (with the total distribution staff selling Intel in my territory including the non-dedicated being over 100). Shifted from <20% to >50% distribution to increase profit.

=> First TME hired onto a new Systems Group team who launched Multibus II. From zero we created sales over $100M per year that grew to over $400M annually (solid multi-year deals grow in time).

=> Do key presentations, train the worldwide field team, and ramp up project specific teams to prove value of: Multibus II boards, systems, chip, and software (Unix, RMX, & DOS). Message Passing Co-Processor specialist.

=> Project management of Intel resources to support global field pre-sales major deal activities to get sales closed.

=> Coordinated project teams to prove our products could do the job including: Discovered customer needs, closed key sales, supported trade shows, taught trainings, put RMX on Multibus II, reviewed technical documents, formed effective sales strategies, wrote application notes, had many magazine articles published, debugged problems, and ran pre-sales critical benchmarks critical to closing sales.

=> Presented world field conference classes ranked #1 and #17 by the students out of 154 classes in 1988.

=> The “Network-in-a-Box” demo I created was shared with thousands when shown at: many Buscons, Comdexs, other trade shows, the 1987 Intel Shareholders Meeting, and several 80386 Introduction locations. It was a multi-CPU (up to 20) multi-OS system with a single mouse and keyboard driven display.

=> Enabled the prototype to secure the largest PO up to then of $330,000,000 (one check) for an optical mail sorter to speed the US Postal Service to 10 letters-per-second and now puts bar codes on envelopes when processed as sent.

=> Helped Australian Government automate their rail system.

=> Enabled no driver people-mover trains at Westinghouse Transportation for airports like Orlando, London, etc.

Intel Corporation: Test Engineering Technical Summer Hire

=> Support manufacturing of chips, boards, systems and software in the Systems Test Board Level (STBL) group.

=> Represented Intel with outside vendors to purchase needed technology and solutions.

=> Built first prototype of the Multibus II board General Purpose Test Fixture (GPTF) Hot Box that became a successful long-term customer enabling $40K product.

=> Helped write board level test software for the first Multibus II disk/tape/floppy controller using UNIX, RMX real-time OS, PLM (an Intel proprietary language similar to Pascal/C), and ASM.
