Employment history

Independent R&D Mar. 2009~ Now

• Designed a fiber coupled acousto-optical 1 2 switch with switching speed around 50ns and high crosstalk.

• Design 2 2 Cross bar Switch with switching speed around 50ns and high crosstalk.

Gooch & Housego (Florida) LLC, Senior Optical Engineer, Nov. 20, 2006 ~ Feb. 2009

• Acousto-optical device design and new process development.

• Design a fiber coupled acousto-optic Q-Switch and modify the software for the design of AO device,

• Analysis and test of failure AO device and set up a Mach-Zehnder interferometer to perform acoustic wave reflection test with digital signal processing technologies.

Agiltron Inc. Woburn, Massachusetts Optical Engineer, Feb. 2004~ Nov. 2006

• Led a group to work on magneto-optical 1 8 switch for BAE Systems for F-22 and F-35 project, including set up an automatic testing system for switch test, arrange production in order to meet schedule to finish assembly and on-time delivery of switches and all related documentations. BAE Systems finally accepted Agiltron as a qualified vendor for its F-22 and F-35 project.

• Participate in a group to design and develop a prototype of MEMS based IR camera.

• Work on 1064nm solid state laser welding system, including cavity tuning, laser unit assembly and system troubleshooting.

• Led a project to design a high power fiber laser switch for ITT for its airborne laser system, finished prototype assembly and on time delivered to the customer.

• Led a project to design and develop dual 2 2 Bypass Optical Switch for Intel Ethernet Transceiver Module, it now is the most volume manufacturing product in Agiltron.

• Applied a patent of 2 2 Cross-bar Optical Fiber Switch, which is smaller than any other Optical Switch of this kind on the market, finished its design and prototype development.

Oplink Communications, Inc. San Jose, California, Manager of Process Development Group, 1996 ~ 2003

• Led a group to establish Optical Coating Department, beginning with coating machine spec proposal, on-site acceptance test, in-house system set up and routine maintenance, ending up with providing all kinds of AR coatings that deadly need in production.

• Led a project to invent a thin-film coating measuring device and establish an approach which can easily measure small size optical filter spectrum of either transmittance or reflection with high accuracy, it facilitated Oplink greatly in fast filter evaluation and inspection in WDM and DWDM mass production. Now this method is well accepted in all companies relating to WDM and DWDM production

• Led a project to design hi-real undersea fiber optic isolator and finished prototype.

• Manager of Process Development Group, in charge of the manufacture process improvement on Isolator, Coupler, Combiner, Circulator, crystal based Interleaver, and Switch, designed a device for measuring optical length and axial orientation of thick waveplate with the accuracy of 0.1µm.

• Led a group on 100GHz DWDM project to develop the whole process for mass production.

• Led a project to redesign a 1 2 Optical Fiber Switch, the new one was at that time the smallest electro-mechanical switch in the world. It contains fewer components and is much easier to assemble which resulted in a greatly increased yield rate, it is still considered as the best product in the company’s lineup for its high reliability and yield rate.

• Applied several patents cooperated with others.

North-China Research Institute of Electro-Optics. Beijing, China, Optical Engineer 1990 ~ 1996

• Working as a customer service representative for Eddy Co. for coating machine setup and maintenance in China.

• Working on optical coating, esp. in coatings with high threshold of laser induced damage, familiar with various kinds of coatings and routine maintenance skill of vacuum coating system.
