Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai (India). I secured first rank and topped the All-India Merit List in the year 1993-94 and bagged gold medal, silver medal, cash prizes and merit certificate. This course is being conducted at 56 centers in India.

Programme for Diploma in Management Studies from Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), Gujarat, India. I topped my batch comprising 55 students in the year 1992-93.

Master of Commerce Part - I from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India.

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with higher second class from Gujarat University.

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS CARRIED OUT

Carried out an in-depth study on the role and effectiveness of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and submitted a detailed report on the same as part of the Programme for Diploma in Management Studies.

As part of the project work at the end of my Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism, prepared and submitted an exhaustive report titled 'Launching a newspaper and making it successful'.

JOB EXPERIENCE

Currently, I am self-employed. I undertake writing and editing assignments on freelance basis and attend to them from my home-office in Thrissur, Kerala.

From May 2008 to October 2009, I was working with Satyam Computer Services Ltd as Lead Consultant – Thought Leadership, Global Marketing & Communication. I was based in Chennai and the nature of work that I handled included writing, editing, rewriting, research and content development. More specifically my job involved preparing white papers, case studies, POVs, bylined articles, etc.

Before this, I was based in Ahmedabad, heading the Communications Division of an IT company called Ledger Solutions Pvt Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the US-based Reliable Group.

From October 2007 till February 2008, I was working as the Executive Editor of an international magazine New Global Indian. This magazine is published from Pune and is targeted at successful Indians scattered all over the globe. Here I had total editorial responsibility and I was supposed to ensure that the magazine is published and circulated in time.

Till October 2007, I was working as a Consulting Editor with Akar InfoMedia Pvt Ltd (AIM), which publishes three trade magazines, namely Construction Journal of India, Indian Plumbing Today and StonEdge. From January 2001 to February 2004, I was employed with Business Standard as Special Correspondent at its Ahmedabad and Kochi bureaus. I was the de-facto Bureau Chief at both these places and I had total editorial responsibility of both the bureaus. From the editorial angle, I had single-handedly launched the Business Standard's Ahmedabad edition in April 2001.

Earlier, I used to bring out a business magazine from Ahmedabad. Named Business Gujarat, it was funded by Strategic Newspapers Pvt Ltd, Mumbai. I have also edited and published a magazine on New Age Living from Thrissur. I have also worked as a senior business journalist with some of the top Indian publications like The Times of India, The Asian Age, The Indian Post and Dalal Street Investment Journal. I have also worked with The Gulf Today newspaper in Sharjah as a senior copy editor. Before plunging into full-time journalism, I have worked as Inspector with the Income Tax Department, Ahmedabad and as Clerk with the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development at their regional office in Ahmedabad.

NATURE OF WORK HANDLED AND AREA OF PROFICIENCY

At The Times of India and The Asian Age, I used to do reporting work comprising writing news stories, reports, features, etc. As I have specialized in business journalism, I mainly used to focus on topics like business, industry, trade, commerce, capital market, banking, economy, et cetera.

As a Sub Editor with Sharjah-based The Gulf Today, my work involved monitoring news wires and selecting relevant stories and pictures, editing copies and cropping pictures and graphics, turning out attention-grabbing headlines, designing pages and finalizing the layout. Besides, I used to write a weekly column on the stock market.

As Business Editor with The Indian Post, I had total responsibility of its business section. There my work involved chairing editorial meetings, planning the successive issues of the business supplement comprising eight pages every week, finalizing the topics to be taken up based on their topicality and news value, assigning work to ten business correspondents based all over India, overseeing the work of all my subordinates and ensuring the overall quality and effectiveness of the entire business section. My duties there also included ensuring that all the stories and inputs are received well before the deadline and the best ones among them are chosen, headlined, subbed and properly placed on each page. Finalizing the layout of each page and getting the business section printed in time was also my responsibility.

As Special Correspondent with DSJ Communications Ltd, my work entailed plant visits, discussions with top management and presentation of findings in the form of articles, corporate reports, analysis, etc, for their flagship publication Dalal Street Investment Journal. Conducting comprehensive study and in-depth analysis of industry prospects, performance of companies and new public issues were also part of my job. I also used to regularly contribute stories, features, personality profiles, etc for their other magazines India Economic Update and E-Square.

OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS

I started writing for leading national and international magazines and newspapers on freelance basis, when I was just a college student. My poems started appearing in the Indian Express when I was studying in XII standard. Moreover, during the course of my studies and working life, I have successfully undertaken and completed several independent assignments comprising preparing management consultancy reports, promotion brochures, company profiles, project feasibility studies, research papers and organizing of seminars, conferences, workshops, lectures, etc. I have also been very closely associated with various professional activities of the Ahmedabad Management Association and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

I have a natural flair and innate aptitude for journalistic and corporate communications related work. Besides, I have excellent problem solving, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and also the ability to work effectively in a team environment while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Moreover, I have strong PC skills with word processing and multi-media software applications in a Windows environment. I have also undergone a two months' formal training in Quark press and acquired reasonably good proficiency in page designing and layout.
