AFSAS project: Project Manager/ Scrum Master
I’m working on the government project for the US Air Force. Since 2002 the government auctioned this project twice, every time awarding it to a new company. Every time this happened I was hired by a succeeding firm. My current employer is Booz Allen Hamilton.
I’m leading the development and successful deployment of the Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS) for the Air Force Safety Center (AFSC) using Agile Scrum framework. I'm the Project Manager/Scrum Master leading the team of 12 developers including programmers, data base administrators (DBAs), testers, system administrators and business analysts. The team consists of military, government civilians, and contractors. I’m responsible for the implementation of the software development full life cycle including:
• Strong influence-management, negotiation, leadership and assertiveness.
• Frequent production releases (every 2 weeks).
• Daily operations management.
• Reporting to Sr. management. Preparing and coordinating monthly product reviews with customers.
• Developing release schedules on a large scale as well as developing estimates for the short-term goals.
• Organizing and conducting process improvement meetings with the team, and follow up on problems resolutions.
• Organizing and conducting planning meetings with the customers, requirements and development teams.
• Removing roadblocks and impediments that prevent the team from working productively.
• Organizing and conducting implementation and technical design discussions.
• Conflict resolution within the team members.
• Interviewing candidates for open positions.
Software Engineer:
Tools and Languages: Java, Ajax, J2EE, Java Servlets, Apache Tomcat, Apache Struts, Velocity, PL/SQL, Oracle10g, JavaScript, HTML, Eclipse, TOAD, SQL Plus, SVN, CVS, VSS.
Prior to my project management/scrum master responsibilities I was participating in all phases of AFSAS development (requirements, design discussions, coding, testing, and creating documentation) as a software engineer.
AFSAS is a multitiered web application for collecting all reportable mishaps within US Air Force and making a trend analysis with the purpose of preventing mishaps. I worked on the majority of AFSAS elements:
• AFSAS security module controls user access based on PKI and user roles and permissions.
• User Administration module controls user accounts, roles and permissions.
• Matrix module controls user access to the data fields. It defines field’s availability and flags them as required or optional based on a few initial parameters.
• Error Check module verifies user input once data entry is completed and lets user know which fields were missed and which business rules were violated.
• Complex coordination and approval process of released messages.
• Subscription services for users to receive only types of messages they are interested in.
• Migration to Data Warehouse.
• Data Extraction Tool (DET) where user can create, save, and schedule his/her reports to run automatically or on demand. User can select
o Scheduling parameters;
o Search parameters;
o Output types (HTML, MS Excel, MS Word, or some other specialized forms);
o Output fields;
o Order by specific parameters.
AFSAS became a true Safety System and includes modules like Occupational Illness, Hazard Abatement, etc.
