Objective:

Seeking an organic synthetic position in pharmaceutical industry: structure-based drug design and new drug discovery.

Highlights and skills:

 Six years’ experience of multi-step syntheses of small organic molecules and asymmetric organometallic catalysis with biologically active organic compounds

 Capability to work independently with synthetic route design.

 Six years of lab-teaching experience enables excellent presentation and communication skills.

 Characterization of small organic compounds using NMR, GC/MS, LC/MS, HPLC, chiral HPLC, IR, UV/Vis on daily basis.

Education:

Ph.D. (Organic Chemistry) (expected graduation date) Dec, 2010

Clemson University

B.S. (Applied Chemistry) Jun, 2004

China Agricultural University

Research Experience:

Graduate Research (Aug 2004 - Present): Working with Dr. Karl Dieter in developing new methodologies in small substituted N,O-heterocycles synthesis.

• Synthesis of enantioenriched substituted cycloamidines.

• Conjugated addition to N-carbamoyl-2-pyridones and other 2-pyridones using organolithium and organocopper reagents.

• Cross-coupling reactions of alkenyl halides with amines, Buchwald–Hartwig type reactions involving palladium(Pd) catalysts.

• Stereo- and chemoselective opening of (E)-3-(1-propenyl)oxiranemethanol and its derivatives using titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) and other reagents.

• Asymmetric allylic substitution of 2-[(tert-Butyldimethylsiloxy)methyl]-3-(trans-2-methylvinyl)oxirane using organolithium(Li), magnesium(Mg), and zinc(Zn) cuprates.

• Synthesis of enantioenriched substituted 5- and 6-membered lactones.

• Asymmetric synthesis of sex pheromones for insects.

Undergraduate Research (Sep 2002-Mar 2003): Worked with Dr. Min Wang and his research group. Participated in the project of capillary gas chromatographic separation of enantiomers of 2-phenyl-1-cyclopropanecarboxylate.

• Group member (Nov 2001-Feb 2002): Conducted research on the project of the synthesis of BINAP and application of BINAP-metal complex catalysts in asymmetric reduction.

Teaching Experience:

• Teaching Assistant (Aug 2004-Aug2010): Taught undergraduate level labs for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry One &Two. Excellent feedback from the students.
