WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORTS AND PARKS, LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL
Manager Engineering Services (Disney’s Wilderness Lodge) 2005-2009
- Directed and maximized efficiency of 61 personnel on engineering operation team consisting of multi-skilled craftspeople. Encouraged and supported R.A.V.E. (Respect, Appreciate and Value Everyone) environment.
- Spearheaded the engineering activities and resolution of related issues for three diverse property types Premium Hotel/Lodge, Timeshare/Vacation Club Villas, and Fort Camping while providing day-to-day engineering support for Foods, Housekeeping and Front Desk at the Lodge and Vacation Club Villas.
- Oversaw the Reserve’s budget for WL Vacation Club Villas, including long range planning for maintenance and future renovation, FF&E and enhancement projects.
- Represented the Engineering Department at all DVC owners’ meetings.
- WDW Co. Owner/Agent/Contractor appointed contact responsible for securing all internal Engineering Electrical Permits for Parks & Resorts since 1990. (i.e. new, rehab, seasonal and event related electrical work)
- Ensured safety around the entire vicinity and prepared all emergency power supply and evacuation systems, while overseeing the Global Facility Correction Notification System (FCNS) database for Wilderness Region. In addition, responsible, for all State Inspection walks with identified corrections remediation inside 30 days max!
Key Accomplishments:
- Partnered globally and shared best practices with other engineering departments and Chief Engineers.
- Guaranteed the seamless set-up and rollout of Disney Resort’s new Enhanced Room’s PM Program; reduced engineering related room calls by over 30% within the Wilderness Region. Key member in the focus group that designed the Shared Point Data Entry System for “WDW Hotel Room’s PM Program”.
- Developed, justified, and managed Wilderness Region’s Integrated Facility Plan (IFP), Capital Planned Work projects and Capital Equipment purchases for Engineering, Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Foods line of business (LOB).
- Actively participated on Global Team “Panel Interview Board” for Engineering and Transportation Services hiring from a diverse workforce pool for the best candidates.
- Chosen as the Department’s Regulatory Training Coordinator raising the cast readiness from 63% to 100% current on all classes; welcomed and educated new resort employees at orientation classes about engineering services support for all resort lines of business.
- Functioned as Regional Manager at meetings, inspection walks, and others in the absence of the authority.
- Outstandingly achieved FY’08 Operating and Expense Financial Targets despite budget reduction cuts.
- Sought for and secured Global funding to accomplish painting, cleaning, and FF&E for all common areas.
- Ensured the successful completion of a $14.4M lodge Guest Room and Common Area Rehab project under budget and in shortest amount of time in WDW Resort’s history ($12.8M, 9 weeks) with very low guest impact; received the “Excellence Award”.
- Received the Company’s “Environmentally Award” for reducing the Wilderness Region’s lighting power demand by 75% through proposing and securing global funding (with good ROI justification) used for energy initiatives.
- Strategically managed one of WDW Resort’s most aggressive exterior rehabs, $8.6M budgeted completed at $7.8M and 4 weeks ahead of schedule providing 4 weeks of additional room’s revenue.
- Streamlined vendor service calls by developing an efficient and economical demand-based resource program.
- Played an important role for WDW Engineering’s Environmental initiatives at reducing emissions, waste minimization/recycling, and energy reduction eventually earning the Wilderness Region the nationally recognized “Green Lodging” certification.
- Engineering’s Safety Advocate; defined areas of concern and implemented processes & changes for improvement and new safety-first training and initiatives, accordingly positioning the team to receive the “WDW Safe D Award” for earning a record of over 400 days with no OSHA recordable incidents.
Manager Engineering Services (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) 1998-2005
- Provided strategic direction to 25 multi-craft maintenance employees, along with 3 office and technical employees needed for the streamlined engineering warehouse operation.
- Responsible for all kitchens and Food’s locations, Engineering Rep for all State & Health Inspection walks ensuring rapid resolution of any HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Plan) related issue.
- Spearheaded and managed the 3rd shift Regional Maintenance Support operation from it’s inception in providing maintenance coverage to all WDW Resorts including Administrative Support areas. Therefore, Consequently Resort’s engineering departments were able to end their 3rd shift operation with considerable cost savings overall.
