Server Room Consolidation Project– Reorganized server room to accommodate increased capacity needs for servers. Upgraded UPS system, network switches from unmanaged HP 100Mb to managed Dell 1 GB units. Setup KVM system to manage all servers from one keyboard and monitor. Made recommendations on a new design of separate air conditioning and electronics friendly fire suppression system on behalf of planning for the Corporate Disaster Recovery planning.
Security:
Maintained ISA Proxy Server and Firewall for all incoming/outgoing network connections. Managed Norton Corporate Antivirus server installation. Setup all desktop computers to use the Norton Antivirus server. Kept all servers updated with latest software security patches from vendors. Setup local repository of Windows updates and patches to be used by users to insure validity of the updates and to reduce amount of internet bandwidth used. Configured proxy server DNS settings to use OpenDNS as a zero cost internet content filtering solution. Managed file/folder access through user and group permissions. Setup all computers with multi-level password protection, bios, network, and application whenever possible. Used asset management software to help detect unauthorized software installations. Was planning on installing an IDS (intrusion detection system) on the proxy server or as a separate hardware device, after the new ERP system was fully in use. Very familiar with tools and techniques used to manually remove malware and viruses.
