• Conducted health and safety evaluations for > 90% of work centers at both McMurdo and South Pole Stations. Included in the inspections were hazmat and chemical compatibility.

• Assisted the Lead Safety on (2) accident investigations and reported findings/recommendations based on a fault tree analysis format.

• Completed initial CSE classifications of all permit-required spaces (70), including photos and recommendations for entry procedures, equipment and PPE.

Bureau Veritas, BP Deepwater Horizon Decontamination Project, Port Fourchon, LA

• Provided Safety and Health oversight for personnel engaged in confined space entry (tank cleaning) procedures and first line break for potential elevated chemical contaminants (H2S) aboard vessels.

• Reviewed job safety analysis (JSAs) for decontamination-related tasks and ensured proper usage of PPE for respiratory protection.

• Inspected proper grounding/bonding of hazardous energy equipment and ensured proper work/rest regimen and hydration for decontamination workers.

• Conducted health and safety surveys to identify potential hazards, along with recommendations for corrective action.

Kwajalein Range Services, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Center, Republic of the Marshall Islands

• Assisted the Safety Office on the Potable Water Tower Project (employee fall protection usage/confined space entry).

• Provided safety support for vessel off-load/on-load operations, excavations, materials-handling, hot-work/confined space entry on board maritime vessels, ensure proper usage of PPE for the workforce.

• Reviewed, drafted and implemented Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) for the Construction, Metal and Paint Shops.

• Provided Confined Space Entry (CSE) training for personnel operating under 1910/1915/1926 standards.

• Developed a Medical Surveillance Plan, as part of a 6-Sigma Project. This provided a comprehensive method of tracking asbestos/lead workers, personnel in the Respiratory Protection Program and Hearing Conservation Program, and the timeframe for updating their medical evaluations. I was assisted in this process by the Occupational Health Nurse.

U.S. Army Transportation Center, Fort Eustis, VA

• Consultant to the U.S. Army Transportation Center on all IH-related issues. Provided technical guidance to the Installation Safety Manager on respiratory protection, hazard communication, ergonomics and workplace evaluations.

• Consultant to the Post Commander, Fort Monroe, VA, as an industrial hygiene expert on disaster response, resulting from Hurricane Isabel. Responsibilities included identifying water damaged materials (category 3), prioritizing buildings to be remediated, recommending PPE selection and conducting HVAC inspections in approximately 60 buildings.

• Conducted confined space entry training for Army Maritime Personnel. Responsibilities included developing training material and conducting hands-on training in chemical safety, PPE, atmospheric testing and confined space entry.

• Health and Safety Oversight for a hazard evaluation of the Railroad Processing Facility, Fort Eustis, VA. Responsibilities included an initial walkthrough, air monitoring for contaminants (products of combustion), data evaluation and reporting, with findings and corrective actions.

EG&G, Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, FL

• As an Industrial Hygiene Technician, provided support to the Shuttle and the Unmanned Vehicle Program. Conducted confined space entry procedures for tanks, mobile launch platform, shuttle pressurized systems, flowing simple asphyxiants and potential explosive atmospheres (solid rocket boosters).

• Conducted air monitoring for numerous asbestos abatement projects. Responsibilities included inspecting containments, conducting background monitoring, final clearance samples and interpreting results.
