Started as a second assistant doing sterlization, cleaning, disinfecting rooms. The main assistant left and I became lead assistant and have been doing that since. Cleaning up rooms, sterilization, assisting on procedures i.e. Crown and Bridge, Composite fillings, Cementations/Bonding Inlays/Onlays, Root Canals, Crown exposure, and basic exams. I've done charting and full mouth probe charting. I also answered phone calls when needed.

While the assistant was on maternity leave, I took her place and filled in. Prior to the full time, I worked one day a week during the summer until she had her baby. I've assisted, sterilized, taken x-rays, ordered materials, and learned more as I went.

I "job-shadowed" as a dental assistant at a doctor's office where I got to assist, sterilize, seat patients, and work with other employees on their day to day duties. I did this 3 days out of the week for 5 weeks, and was invited to work there while an assistant will be on maternity leave.
