Responsibilities
• Ensure the contractors adhere to the Project SHE Plan including monitoring and reporting.
• Pre-empt problems to the progress or performance of work and recommend strategies to overcome any delay.
• Monitor resources employed by contractors including number and calibre of staff, manpower and equipment and make recommendations where deficiencies are found.
• Monitor the contractor’s work to ensure installation of materials and equipment is in compliance with drawings, specifications and required quality.
• Monitoring, auditing and reporting of contractor’s workmanship, Inspection and Testing Plans.
• Inspect the work under each contract daily and advise the contractor of any corrective actions needed as they occur.
• Ensure that contractor’s prepare accurate as-built drawings.
• Assist with the coordination and reporting of all construction aspects of assigned work, including coordination between contractors.
• Ensure that the contractor’s prepare all required safety forms and records and that they conform to safe working practices and procedures at all times.
• Coordinate with the Safety Advisor to approve / disapprove the contractor’s submitted Work Permits implementation.
• Obtain approvals for additional work outside the original contract / Project scope of work prior to implementation.
• Inspect the work and approved extra works under each contract during each day and advise the contractor of any non conformances in the work as they occur.
• Assist with the assessment of field change instructions, additional work orders and back charge notices documentation interpretation.
• Diagnose and trouble shoot problem areas of concern, of technical nature associated with the daily inspections of Contractor’s works.
• Interpret design drawings when requested by field personnel and / or contractors and transmit the interpretation in the correct manner.
• Report weekly to the Resident Engineer and the Project Manager the percentage on each work area or discipline.
• Arrange in conjunction with the other construction personnel and the client, a formal work inspection at the completion of contracts and issue of a punch list if any non-conformance is found. As punch list items are finished, arrange for further inspections until all items are complete.
• Ensure that all field tests are organised as nominated in contract documentation.
• Ensure that all survey checks are carried out as required.
• Assist with the estimation of quantities and material takeoffs of contractor’s field purchases of materials.
• Provide commissioning assistance as and when required.
• Ensure all individual equipment and work areas are ready for test / verification when scheduled and attend all tests. Arrange implementation of corrective action following the test, if required.
• Attend weekly meetings with the contractor’s and when requested by the Resident Engineer or the Project Manager.
• Make sure that building regulations, standards and by-laws are enforced.
• Ensure that materials used conform to specifications.
• Ensure standards of building performance, quality, cost schedules and safety are maintained.
