Press Operator Skills and Responsibilities
• Manage and direct crew in daily operations of press
• Responsible for all production and make ready during shift
• Check production schedule and adjust to ensure optimum production
• Maintain press log, responsible for data entry into shop floor computer
• Use densitometer or spectrodensitometer to measure color
• Check sheets for color variations and printing defects. Make adjustments or corrections as needed and tag defective product
• Adjust ink/water balance, rollers or fountain keys to achieve proper color
• Communicate any problems to supervisor
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance
• Perform repairs or adjustments to press as needed and capable
• Troubleshoot press problems from the feeder through the delivery
• Determine optimum press speed based on stock and other conditions
• Alert management when maintenance personnel are required for press repairs
• Interact with customer or sales personnel during special runs
• Train crew members
