Work Experience:

1. Designation and Organization:

Senior Research Associate: Piramal Discovery Solutions (Formerly known as O2h), Ahmedabad (November 2010 to till date).

Job profile:

• To work in allocated project and execute them within stipulated time.

• To carry out the literature search for novel compounds/known methods using commercial and noncommercial databases.

• To conduct novelty and prior art search using literature.

• To design synthetic route for targeted compound(s) using literature resources as well as organic chemistry intellects.

• Reaction set up, monitoring, optimization and purification of synthesized compounds, intermediate, drugs, etc.

• To characterize the synthesized compounds using spectroscopic techniques like IR, Mass, LCMS, HPLC, NMR etc.

• To isolate, characterize and predict the byproduct/impurities generated during the reaction.

• To carry out synthesis of desired compound with quantity ranging from mg to gm level.

• To optimize process chemistry and operations for yield and quality improvement; cost reduction, productivity enhancement; technology transfer from lab to plant.

• Troubleshooting during the trials and/or scale up reactions.

• Waste management – waste minimization and recovery of useful by-products from effluent and solvent recoveries.

• To respond to the queries raised by client and present the status of project in meetings.

• Actively participate in the project operations like scheme preparations, chemical calculations (using Excel), chemical search (involving various local and international suppliers); chemical procurement and preparing project management/reporting documents.

• To assist seniors/team members/group leaders in project status/updates/meetings.

• To carry out drug designing based on traditional as well as modern (Computational) approaches like QSAR, Pharmacophore generation, Docking, Virtual screening, etc.

• Actively involved in LEAD identification and optimization process.

• To carry out synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of targeted molecule.

• To generate the Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) study based on the biological activity results.

• To submit/present the status report in front of project sanctioned authorities.

• Experience in handling hazardous reagents like n-butyl lithium, cyanides, hydrides, Raney Ni, Pd-C, Pd(OH)2, etc.

• Having appreciable knowledge about synthesis of heterocycles and chemistry of heterocyclic compounds.

• Synthesized many structurally diverse compounds of the scale of 100 mg to 100 g during the course of research work with synthetic steps ranging from 3-14.

• Able to carry out different purification techniques like chromatography, recrystallisation, solvent trituration, acid-base-amine purification, solvent extraction, etc.

• Expertise in carrying out reactions at very low temperature and in inert environment.

• Able to work individually/collaboratively with at least two different projects.

• Expertise in ligand design for diverse therapeutic targets and optimizing it with computational Drug Design with full working knowledge of most of the CADD softwares including Discovery Studio 2.1 (Accelrys Inc., USA) and Autodock.
