Plant Manager, Production and Maintenance Manager, Harman – Automotive Division 2005- Present

Recruited as the Plant Engineer to install and commission all the manufacturing equipment in a new state of the art electronics manufacturing facility. Progressively advanced my career to Plant Manager. My leadership roll oversees daily plant operations at a facility with 15 production lines, producing 566,000 headunits per year.

Key Projects and Achievements:

• Responsible for leading teams in saving over $5 million annually through continuous improvement and lean Kaizens.

• P&L Responsibilities for an operating budget of $400 million per year.

• Oversee the production of $400 million cost of goods at an automotive electronics manufacture. Directing a workforce of up to 470 hourly employees, 30 technicians and 9 supervisors.

• Managed the Chrysler shut down during 2009. Chrysler idled all production for 2 months effecting 80% of the production of the plant.

• Mentor, Train and Develop plant’s Area Managers in HPS, 5s, and Toyota Production Systems

• Increased Surface Mount Department utilization from 48% in September 2009 to 73% in May 2010.

• Responsible for improving plant PM compliance from 74% to 95%.

• Relocation of Harley Davidson head unit line from Northridge, CA to Washington, MO

• Installation of all production equipment in facility. Managed contractors for all improvements. Wrote all initial operator Preventative Maintenance. Implemented the Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) for tracking PM compliance and inventory.

• Lead teams through the development of standard work for manual assembly processes reducing headcount by 36 saving the plant $1.8 million/year.

• As an Area Manager lead the scrap step project eliminating $500,000 by reducing scrap by 60%.

Maintenance Manager, Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation 1999-2005

• Initiated, justified, budgeted and managed all capital and major maintenance projects with budgets between $2.4 million and $15,000.

• Increased production 30% from 2002. The three year plan included a $2.4 million machine installation and a $500,000 machinery upgrade and retrofit. The project was finished by optimizing the product mix across all lines. Reduced water consumption by 66% with installation of closed loop chiller saving $30,000 per year with a $10,000 investment. Reduced power costs by installing timers on all hydraulic pump motors saving $25,000 per year with a $1000 investment.

• Schedule a maintenance staff of 11 technicians to complete safety, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, breakdown, and repair work orders.

• Rolled out new CMMS to help manage PM schedule, work orders, and parts inventory.

• Member of the Divisional Maintenance Safe Work Procedure Committee responsible for defining safe work procedures for maintenance personnel. Instituted NFPA 70E guidelines at the facility.

Project Engineer, MG Industries 1994-1999

• Responsible for the purchase and installation of air separation plants utilizing medium (4160V) voltage air compressors. Developed project scope, budget, specification, bidding from initial sales contact through to completion.

• Completion of $16MM project constructing an air separation plant in Queretaro, Mexico. This project included the installation of an electrical sub-station for the facility.

• Interim Director of On-Site Services. Sales support for on-site generation group. Primary responsibilities were profit and loss forecasting, customer contract review, customer problem resolution, and sales support.

• Prepared the project budget and facilitated relocating an $8 million plant from Calgary, Canada to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

• Installed and commissioned 15-24 Non-Cryogenic systems a year, with a financial scope of each project ranging from $30,000 to $1.2 million.

• Trained for 1 year as a plant operator learning the common mistakes engineers make when building plants. Learned the value of the front line operator’s opinion.
