ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Mechanical: Designed and developed complex mechanical & electronic products and provided liaison with

over-seas and domestic production facilities for debug and production start-up, involving plastic

injection molding, blow molding, roto-casting, die-casting and other related processes.

Supervised designers and drafters, performing production support engineering and generating production

drawings to ANSI Y14.5 for various radar systems.

Designed electronic packaging, connection systems, test fixtures, component racks, production tooling,

tooling mechanisms, tolerance control equipment, sheet metal products, electronic push button switches, plastic injection

moulds and created flow diagrams. Coordinated creation of Stereo-lithographic prototypes.

Researched, developed and directed implementation of the first paper-less engineering change system at Hughes.

• Electronics: Generated schematics, wiring diagrams and printed circuit board layouts.

• Software: Used AutoCAD and 3D Mechanical Desktop for 10 years and also proficient at NX Unigraphics (3 years).

Also familiar with Pro-E Wildfire 2, Solidworks, and most popular Windows & Mac OS applications.

5/2011- present. Aerojet General Corp., Sacramento, CA. Supplier of rocket engines and aerospace components

to the NASA and the major aerospace companies. Tooling Design Engineer (Consultant), in the tooling group,

designing tools, handling equipment & fixtures for integration, transportation & testing.

-10/’08 to 2/2011: Space Exploration Technologies, Hawthorne, CA

This start-up company designs & builds commercial space rockets and a space capsule for NASA and various

other space agencies. Tooling Design Engineer in the tooling group, designing & coordinating

construction of production tooling and handling equipment manufacturing, testing and launching of the

company’s F 9 rocket and Falcon spacecraft.

-6/’03 to 10/08: Boeing Satellite Development Center (formally Boeing Space Systems), El Segundo, CA

This division of Boeing designs & builds commercial & military communications satellites and other types of

space vehicles. Sr. Design Engineer (Consultant), in the Ground Support Systems group, designing &

managing construction of production tooling and handling equipment used for satellite integration, and testing.

Also performed electronic packaging design for the RF and Digital Electronics Payload Systems groups under a

separate consulting contract.

-7/’02 to 6/’03: Malibu Research Associates, Calabasas, CA

This small Aerospace Company designs and builds radar and telemetry antennas and associated systems.

Design / Drafting Department Supervisor. Organised and supervised a drafting/design team

engaged in the creation of all production drawings for radar & telemetry antenna systems and transitioning

the company from 2D to 3D parametric design procedures.

-4/’98 to 7/02: Boeing Space Systems (formally Hughes Space & Communications), El Segundo, CA

This division of Boeing designs & builds commercial & military communications satellites and other types of

space vehicles. Sr. Design Engineer (Consultant), then hired in as Staff Engineer in the Ground Support

Systems group, designing & managing construction of production tooling and handling equipment for satellite

integration. Transferred in ‘01 to RF electronic product design group, designing high precision RF receiver

packaging and test fixtures for high frequency micro miniature integrated circuits used in the commercial and

military communication satellites.

A medium size toy company specialising in the development and distribution of educational toys and

electronic learning aids. Sr. Design Engineer (Consultant). Responsible for new product development using

AutoCAD and the establishment of CAD documentation standards.

A small research and development partnership with American Meter Co. engaged in the development of an

electronic gas meter for the natural gas industry. Sr. Mechanical Engineer. Supporting the Chief Engineer

in all aspects of product development, management and vendor liaison. Developed a reliable gas sensing device,

upgraded the project documentation system and provided electronic and mechanical design support.

A medium sized toy company with a line of mechanical, electronic and water toys, based in China with a

Design and development facility in the US. Sr. Project Engineer. Responsible for developing new

products using AutoCAD, liaison with manufacturing engineering department and model shop.

-1/'91 to 3/'96: California Cellular Phones, Los Angeles, CA

Owner/Manager. Generated sales and provided service and activation support for a large customer base.

Also managed accounting, customer service, purchasing and staffing functions.

-4/'84 - 1/'91: Hughes Aircraft Co. (Radar Systems Group), El Segundo, CA

An aerospace/electronics company. The Radar Systems Group specialises in the design and manufacture of

airborne and mobile ground based radar systems. Started as Engineering Design Specialist, then promoted

in '85 to Design Engineering Department Supervisor. Responsible for supervision, staffing and quality for

approximately 55 people performing product design and manufacturing support engineering.

-8/'83 - 4/'84: California. R & D Center, Culver City, CA

A research & development firm engaged in the development of toys and consumer electronic products for

several large manufacturing companies. Sr. Design Engineer. Responsible for the design and development of

mechanisms and the making of layouts and preliminary drawings of new products. Checked drawings and design

concepts for accuracy, producibility and cost. Supervised and co-ordinated creation of prototypes for marketing

presentations.

Manufacturer of video games, personal computers, calculators, and game watches.

Project Engineer (Product Development). Responsible for new product design and manufacturing liaison as

well as creation of ANSI documentation for products originally developed overseas. Made circuit board layouts,

tool drawings and provided manufacturing support & liaison for Taiwan and Hong Kong based production facilities.

Manufacturer of a line of micro computer terminals and peripherals and provider of on-line services.

Project Engineer (Product Development). Created design layouts and production drawings for the "Telecomputer"

system and its peripherals. Also provided project management and production start-up engineering support.

-4/'73 - 8/'81: MATTEL Inc., Hawthorne, CA

Manufacturer of toys and electronic consumer products. Started as Sr. Drafter, promoted to Designer,

Design Engineer and Sr. Design Engineer. Created layouts, assembly and detail drawings.

Also designed circuit board layouts for electronic games.

Performed project management and provided liaison with other departments (model shop, tooling engineering,

purchasing and manufacturing engineering ) for toys, electronic games and the "Intellivision" video game and computer

peripherals. On loan to tooling engineering and manufacturing engineering departments during slow season periods in

the product design department.

Assigned to ATC 3700 Civil Engineering Group (Lackland AFB) as Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Specialist,

then cross-trained into electronics and was reassigned to MATC (Dover AFB) as Radar & Inertial Navigation

Systems Repairman. Honourably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
