Operations Manager Eregli Iron and Steel Works, Kdz Eregli, Turkey 10/2006-Current

Largest integrated flat steel producer of Turkey ($5.3B revenue) with additional operations in Europe for application of hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanized steel.

Manage and Lead 175 people including 3 PhD’s, 10 MSc’s, 30 Engineers and 132 workers on activities comprised of controlling of raw and input materials, process control and optimization in production, testing of materials, research and development of technological knowledge needed to meet customer demands , steel alloy production development and optimizing process parameters. Knowledge of progressive manufacturing practices including Lean principles, inventory management, production scheduling and control, resource planning, budgeting and cost control.

• Manage the Metallurgical Department for Eregli iron and steel plant that includes Test Lab , Quality Assurance/Claims and Material Test Reporting Functions.

• Responsible for Strategic Planning and sourcing, Quality Assurance/Claims, Research and Development, sourcing of materials , Maintaining ISO, API, TS 16949 and other Certifications of the Division and Establishing Training for Progression/Development of Technical Services Personnel. Extensive Experience in Steel Slab and Coil Purchasing.

• Applies total quality management tools and approaches to analyze quality issues and report processes within each department

• Design and development of new products and application of new technologies (hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel, and galvanized steel and tin plate). Establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product by analysis of statistical data, quality criteria and product specifications.

• Supported four company functional units for customs products by analysis of marketing and sales information, forecast plans, build schedule, and planning for anticipated material and resource requirements.

• Supply Chain management for standard and custom-specific parts and direct interface with suppliers/ customers to resolve scheduling issues for parts/products

Major Accomplishments:

• Defect ratio has been reduced from 5% to 1% by using statistical process control

• Price of Non Conformance (Rework, Scrap and Warranty) kept below 1% of sales.

• Cost of customs products was reduced by 15% by eliminating waste in processes and implementing Kanban scheduling

• Improve on time shipment from 72% to 92% for custom products with managing sales pipeline and with better material and resource planning

• Developed and implemented department and supplier performance score card.

• Developed and implemented new steel grades at the most economical cost.

• Responsible for all Metallurgical Functions Associated with the Rolling of Slabs into Plate and Coil Products. Products include Heat Treat Grades, API Linepipe X Grades, Structural Plate Grades, Coil Grades, Alloy Grades, Ship building steel, Abrasion Resistant Grades, BH steels, IF steels, automotive steels, HSLA steels, Lamination steels, Enemaling steels, Tin plate and galvanized steels.

• Provided Customer Technical Service, Complaints, and Customer Visits including field trial monitoring and data collection. Worked directly with Steelmaking and rolling mill for Quality and Productivity improvements. Provided Training on Rolling of Challenging Grades. Established Testing Protocol and Does Metallographic Investigations.

• Determining the process parameters at each level of process in order to improve and meet the desired mechanical properties of product which will be produced according to customer requirements.
