FINAL YEAR THESIS
Particle Separation Microfluidics, IIT Guwahati, India Aug’10 - April’11
Guide: Ashis Sen (Professor Mechanical Engg., IIT Madras)
Conceived the idea of a novel micro hydrocyclone for particle / liquid separation on lab on chip device (Patent under process).
Performed theoretical analysis using dimensional group model, CAD modeled over AutoCAD, simulated the process inside µ- hydrocyclone by solving fluid flows using NS equations and particle dynamics using Lagrangian approach in a Eulerian fluid (FLUENT 6).
Fabricated and experimented microfluidic device with success. Research work published in Lab on Chip journal and featured as hot article of the month.
Internships
Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea May - July’10
Guide: Dr. Junghoon Lee (Professor, Seoul National University, South Korea)
Developed a FEM of label-free multiplexed Lab on chip sensor for speedy chemical / biological sensing through modeling of surface stress induced capacitance change.
Multiphysics problem solved using electric, static structural and shape optimization modules of ANSYS 11 to predict membrane deflection. 3D model made over AutoCAD.
Benefitted the lab by cost savings through reduced dependence on micro-fabrication.
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY, Goa, India Dec’ 09 - Jan’10
Guide: Y.K. Somayajulu (Scientist, NIO, Goa)
Contributed to ongoing project of ISRO on launch of ocean remote sensing satellite by analyzing altimeter coastal waveforms and deriving its relation to altimetry products.
Coal India Limited, Kolkata, India June, July’09
Employer: S. Guharoy (General Manager, CIL, Dankuni coal complex)
Acted as a part of 3 member team on a Techno-commercial consultancy project worth 0.5 million INR on reduction of dust content in producer gas for coke production.
Achieved annual cost savings through implementation of a redesigned and optimized cyclone separator with water scrubber based solution. Implemented Insulation of the heat leakage points in retort with successful results.
