In IBM’s Bank Risk and Compliance consulting practice. Worked with major financial services clients on projects in control systems, and risk analysis in payments and deposits operations.

President/COO • Start-up (TheInsuranceAdvisor.com) • 2000 to 2001

Developed a business plan including financial plan, systems plan, competitive analysis, process design and staffing plan, and presentation to capital markets. Led initial stages of building the business capabilities. Developed partnering relationships with content and systems vendors.

SVP - Operations • American Security Group (Fortis subsidiary) • 1998 to 1999

Served major bank, credit card and mortgage company clients with outsourcing and insurance services. Operations included 1,400 employees. The scope of his responsibilities included mortgage escrow payment processing, collateral control, and all aspects of insurance operations. He initiated systems consolidation and advanced process automation projects to reduce costs and improve quality and timeliness of service.

Strategy Projects

 Organization Strategies - Led project teams that developed new organization structures and roles for leadership at two top tier banks.

 Operations Strategies - Led project teams addressing large mergers by developing operations strategies to capture economies of scale and implement best practices.

 Payments Strategies - Assisted banks in developing strategic directions and priorities in relation to payment products.

Operations Improvement Projects

 $3 million per month - Identified ways to reduce fraud losses, $3 million per month immediate reduction was quickly achieved.

 $25 million a year in cost take-out - Identified $25 million per year cost take-out from a $88 million retail operations budget. This is a recent project and we anticipate it will require $5 million one-time investment is process, organization, and systems changes.

 Costs divided by 3 - Reduced research requests levels by a factor of three by creating a feedback loop from research to fix the underlying causes of the research requests.

 Productivity X 2 - Doubled the productivity of a Research and Adjustments group by redesigning workflow, measurements, and job definitions. This required five weeks of a three person team.

 Productivity X 3 - Developed an idea to reduce an insurer’s process for handling unposted checks which would reduce staff from 600 to around 200.

 Cash Flow Improvement – Led a team of consultants who identified opportunities to create $300 million in investable funds due to acceleration of funds in and delay in funds disbursed..

 Operations Troubleshooting – Managed several efforts to deal with severe problems in mortgage operations - resolving large balancing and reconciling backlogs.

Finance and Treasury Projects

 Volitile transactions controls – Reviewed and suggested improvements to systems to control the timing of the posting of materially large unusual transactions – so called “volatile” transactions.

 Consolidation – Reviewed closing processes to help assure that controls are adequate to assure accuracy or final results post-consolidation.

 Treasury - Led a three person team that identified ways to increase investable funds for Treasury by over $1 billion. Actually achieved $400 million increased investability to date by reducing ATM cash requirements and the internal float of checks held at branches.

 Reporting Design - Designed complex product and customer profitability reporting systems for two financial institutions. Their scope included issues of capital allocation and key performance indicators. Fraud Investigations - Led three investigations of frauds committed by banks’ employees.

 Fraud Prevention - Developed approaches to reducing a massive fraud problem

 Systems Projects Management – Over 25 years managed numerous projects to select, customize, and install various applications software. Served as project manager on the development of customizable marketed software as well as client-specific software.

 Project Troubleshooting – Managed over a dozen efforts to deal with the results of “blown” systems projects which resulted in severe problems and multiple serious risks in high-volume bank operations. Each such project simultaneously dealt with controlling losses, minimizing customer impacts, working down suspense and reconciliation backlogs, establishing a controlled systems and processing environment, and then transitioning to a normal operations mode.
