Responsibilities: Multi-skilled Medical Assistant with skills as a front office Medical Assistant dedicated to ensuring all that both administrative and patient care tasks are handled with enthusiasm and dedication every day in our fast-paced office serving all ages of patients from diverse patient populations. Medical Assistant
Dedicated Medical Assistant with over 10 years experience in a busy office environment. Daily responsibilities include
• Taking patient Vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse and blood sugar if needed
• X-Rays (Tiger View digital software) as requested by the physician
• dressing changes if needed, to include suture removal must be done using correct sterile technique and document and lack of compliance with patient during post op follow up. Familiar with many strains of Staph Aureus and other aggressive organisms occuring either from surgery or present in wounds such as ulcers or ingrown toenails.
• Provide patients with pamphlets and additional information particularly about diabetes, Gout, Heel Pain, we also talk to them on a routine basis and if they are having problems with compliance we will refer them back to their family doctor for help.
• Document using the standard SOAP charting system all information needed prior to the physician entering the room. Notes must be legible and concise, this information is also entered into our EMR at the same time to ensure records match.
• Took photographs of all surgery trays and these were implimented for staff training purpose to ensure that all trays were set up correctly.
• Complete and prepare any cultures or biopsies and ensure they are ready to be picked up to include calling the vendor and scheduling a pick up.
• Set up surgeries in office using full sterile technique, these include bunion, heel spur, toenails, hammertoes, amputations, excision of verucca and many other surgeries
• Ensuring all rooms are kept clean and stocked, ensured all stock that was needed was ordered and kept stocked correctly. Worked with vendors to ensure that the most cost effective items were purchased.
• Referrals for MRI, TCO2 (tans cutaneous oxygen study ) studies, vascular studies, Infectious disease referrals for infections that would not respond to oral medications and other physicians as needed. I take care of all the insurance requirements prior to the patient being scheduled.
• Fill out all patient FMLA paperwork after a surgery has been performed and provide documentation to their insurance carrier as needed. Provided services with these companies to ensure claims were processed quickly and paid in a timely manner.
• Call in prescriptions or use the ESCRIBE system to call in prescriptions as directed by the physicans, some insurances will come back wanting pre certification and we handle that for the patient.
• Worked directly with BCBS alabama, Medicare, Humana, Humana HMO, Healthspring, Tricare, Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard and Tricare for life resolving insurance problems, or determining coverage I also worked for 2 years in billing and insurance for the practice
• Promptly Identify and rectify inconsistencies, deficiencies and discrepancies in medical documentation. including careful review of medical records for accuracy and completion as required by insurance companies.
• Record and file patient data and medical records. Monitored shared email in-boxes and ensured inquiries were addressed demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations by appropriately handling patient information,
• Prepared patient charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary
• Assisted with data base conversion to new software
• Trained new staff and developed a system of protocol that was implemented to help new staff, I took a copy of our super bill and gave them "Easy speak" definitions with diagrams if needed to ensure understanding.
• Worked on CAQH recertification for a phyiscan and setting up of PECOS online reporting system.
