HSBC Bank Canada 1986 – 2011
Reporting to the Senior Manager, led various business system upgrades and migration projects to support strategic business unit objectives, in particular ensuring consistency and integration among Group systems. Team sizes ranged from 2-8 staff and project budgets were typically over $1 million.
Effectively managed the production and test environment build for the US banking system migration to group standard systems. Ensured group cost saving initiative was satisfied by building correctly sized environments in a timely fashion.
Reduced system recoverability time from 8 hours to 2 hours by managing the application changes required to migrate the US banking system from software based replication to hardware based replication. Significantly reduced potential impact to customer facing applications in the event of a failure. Seamlessly implemented and demonstrated success post-implementation.
Coordinated the regression testing of banking applications in preparation for an operating system upgrade required to move the systems from a soon to be unsupported level. Ensured teams reviewed potential impacts and tested their applications in quality assurance environments before upgrading production.
Managed the disaster recovery planning and biannual testing exercises in order to satisfy regulatory requirements. This involved effectively coordinating the efforts of application teams to prepare detailed integrated plans and then execute scripts on the testing weekend.
Improved system recoverability by implementing the application changes required to move the banking applications to high availability software based replication thus reducing potential impact to customer facing systems.
Coordinated the application team efforts in migrating the data centre from Canada to the US in order to reduce operational costs and risk.
Managed the implementation of a number group supplied or vendor supplied applications relating to anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing and kiting to meet compliance requirements and reduce Bank exposure.
Coordinated the application team efforts in migrating the group banking system to the next supplied level in order to provide new features and the ability to interface to other group supplied systems.
Managed the conversion of 2 separate legacy systems as a result of bank acquisition to the group standard banking system in order to demise existing systems and reduce operational costs
Managed the Y2K project for all banking applications using future dated testing methods to ensure that no failures would occur and remediated any identified problems as appropriate.
