WORK EXPERIENCE
1. Graduate Research Assistant, Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California Feb 2010 – May 2011
Design of a biomimetic tactile sensor (BioTAc) provides sensing modalities of the human fingertips including tri-axial force vectors, slip-related micro-vibrations, and thermal properties as detected by a thermistor at Medical Device Development Facility, USC.
Accomplished following tasks:
• Hardware - Developed a communication protocol between sensor and computer using SPI-USB. Programmed the protocol on FTDI chip-FT2232H(USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (480Mb/s) to UART/FIFO IC) using C++.
• Software – Developed a run-time graphical user interface (GUI) for the sensor using OpenGL library in C++.
2. Research Assistant, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Bio informatics Lab Jan 2011 – May 2011
Designer for the Automated Diagnosis of 2-D Clinical Hand X-ray:
Achieved following goals:
• Identification of genetic disorders using image processing (Lee filtering and Median filtering followed by gradient maps) of radiological data
• Design development of graphical user interface for bone to age analysis algorithm using MATLAB.
3. Software Development Graduate Projects, University of Southern California.
• Implemented an algorithm (seam carving) for content based image rescaling and to synthesize a new image from small patches of existing image by stitching together at joints of minimum energy- Digital Image Processing (supervisor Prof. C.C. Jay. Kuo).
• Implemented speech de-reverberation using multi-channel Linear Prediction filter to process the reverberated speech to probabilistic approximation of clean speech signal- Immersive Audio Signal Processing (supervisor Prof. Chris Kyriakakis).
• Implemented algorithm to track satellite signals (GPS) using Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) techniques- Digital Signal Processing (supervisor Dr. Edgar Satorius).
• Image compression incorporating edge detection with Llyod-Max Scalar Quantization and Uniform Quantization. Post-Processing involved performing deblocking on the quantized image. - Multimedia Data Compression (supervisor Dr. Peshawar Pahalawatta).
4. Course Grader, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA Jan 2011 – May 2011
• Subject: Development and Regulation of Medical Products (Professor: Dr. Gerald E. Loeb)
• Subject: Introduction to Robotics (Professor: Dr. Stefan Schaal).
Responsibilities included: Evaluating all the assignments and managing the student database for end of the course evaluation.
