SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
As a senior systems engineer I have extensive experience taking customer requirements or visions and formulating system concepts, then converting these concepts into system architectures. I have lead and participated in numerous proposal projects, many of which resulted in new business for my employers.
Once I have established the architecture, I have developed specifications for each major section of the system design. In many cases I have further developed detailed design documentation such as procurement specifications and interface specifications and dealt with sub-contractors to acquire the equipment to implement the design.
I have been responsible for integrating systems in hardware and testing them against requirements. I consider myself to be a hands-on engineer and not only enjoy the design and analysis aspects of engineering, but also the practical hardware integration, troubleshooting, and testing activities. I have extensive experience supporting field engineers with deployed equipment. I have also traveled to the field to sell off equipment and to troubleshoot and solve problems in fielded equipment.
My experience covers DC through 45 GHz systems in both the airborne and ground system regimes. In the airborne arena I have experience with military airborne electronic warfare systems, training systems for electronic warfare, electro-optic jamming equipment, radar altimeters, A6F Night Attack Navigation System, and Navy sonobuoy receivers. In the ground based system arena I have experience with radars, ground based electronic warfare systems, passive tracking systems, a telemetry receiving system, data communications systems, antenna boresight transponder equipment, GPS receiver front ends, and a UHF command destruct system. I consider myself an expert in microwave receiver design.
I have analytical skills and have developed analyses in electronic warfare (software model of a surface to air missile system, analyzed passive direction of arrival system for ELINT, for example). Also, I developed an analytical approach using MathCad to determine antenna temperature and G/T for reflector antennas. I also developed a MathCad project to determine the sensitivity and related data for receivers.
In the management arena I have experience as a project engineer, program manager, product line manager, manager of purchasing, Chief Systems Engineer, Director of Systems Engineering, VP of Engineering, business owner, and VP of marketing. I have supervised electrical and mechanical engineers, software engineers, technicians, and drafting personnel. I have developed and improved business processes within the organizations I have managed. Besides my Engineering degrees I hold an MBA degree and understand the importance of having the market drive the activities of an organization. I have supported Business Development, IR&D, and proposal activities while keeping an eye on cost and schedule and delivering value to the customer. Over the years I have supported marketing through travel to customers, developed and delivered technical presentations, developed cost estimates, and developed proposals. I consider my written and oral communications skills to be very good.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
9/09-Present Sr. Radar Engineer, Air Force Joint Test Force (JTF), Jacobs Technology, Inc., Melbourne, FL
Radar test engineer for the JTF on the MP-RTIP and Joint Stars radar systems. Supported test activities in Melbourne and at Mojave and Edwards California on the MP-RTIP SAR/GMTI radar system for the Global Hawk Block 40 aircraft. Also supported the Maritime mode test program for this radar. Designed an improvement to ground based emitter systems used in test to increase effective radiated power by more than 7 dB. Equipment design implemented and used successfully in flight test.
2/09-9/09 Chief Design Engineer, MFH Enterprises, LLC, Melbourne, FL
Design of analog and digital circuitry for two medical devices and a wireless speaker system. Completed prototype models of the medical devices and parts of an engineering model for the wireless system.
5/96-2/09 Sr. Systems Engineer, RF Engineer (SE5, EE5) Harris Corporation, Palm Bay, FL
Systems Engineer and Microwave engineer on IFICS/LSI Data Terminal, part of National Missile Defense program. Designed the RF subsystem for the 44/20 GHz and the 20/20 GHz variants. Designed, managed the manufacture, installation and test of Boresight Equipments. Designed the GPS RF front ends for SBX variant of IFICS system. Conducted HPA unit level test and IDT system level test. Proposed improvement for the HPA, which was implemented by subcontractor, resulting in positive changes to the production hardware. Conceived of and guided development of the automated antenna alignment subsystem that is being used to align all IDT antennas.
2/93-5/96 Lockheed Martin, Loral Space &Range Systems, Rockledge, FL
UTA ITP Leader - Engineering Manager and Systems Engineer on the Universal Tracking Antenna (UTA) a 42’ diameter antenna system. Managed the design team which accomplished the design of the pedestal, the servo system, the antennas, the RF subsystems, and the software. This large antenna had a locked rotor frequency of 7 Hz, could move at 20 degrees/sec. and accelerate at 20 deg/sec^2. Its function was for a C-Band 5 Megawatt radar, an S-Band telemetry receive function in the same aperture, and a UHF command destruct antenna mounted ahead of the sub-reflector.
2/87-7/88 Grumman Melbourne Systems, Melbourne, FL - Sr. Systems Engineer
A6F Program, implementation of ECP-1. Wrote Functional Requirements Specifications for system software on the Night Attack Navigation System. Promoted to Department Assistant Manager. Completed initial tasks, which were projected to take 14 months, in 3 months. This resulted in additional work being awarded to our department from the A6F program. Laid off when program cancelled by Navy.
Previous experience with Kollsman Instrument Co, Sanders Assoc, EDMAC Corp., and AEL Corp.
Extensive and successful design and management experience in electronic countermeasures, radar, radar altimeter, and sonobuoy receivers.
