Intern- Analyzing the Greenness of Analytical Methods

•Determined greenness for over 800 analytical methods in the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI) database.

•Compiled specific data from each method to develop “greenness” profiles based on four key criteria: Persistent/Bioaccumulative/Toxic (PBT), Hazardous, Corrosive, and Waste.

•Negotiated closely with the Methods and Data Comparability Board (MDCB) national water quality experts to develop greenness criteria.

•Maximized the formation of reactive gaseous Hg and minimized the emission of elemental Hg.

•Analyzed Hg compounds using AAS, GC/MS and HPLC.

•Employed ten-stage slurry extraction unit containing airlift mixers for extraction from an aqueous phase to an organic phase.
