Pharmacy Setup Staff / Pharmacy Manager/ On- call Pharmacist
Assisted in the setting up and functioning of this Independent Pharmacy with Dr Singal. Performed general pharmacy duties, inventory control and management.
Independent Pharmacy Planning and Set up: I have been involved in setting up Independent Pharmacies both in Maryland and Washington DC from the ground up. Even though it requires dedication and hard work, it can be done with the right methodology and approach. We began by finding a good location that would get a lot of traffic. Part of our strategy was done over several weeks by counting human traffic, which was located next to doctors’ offices, apartment complexes, nursing homes and busy drug chain stores with long wait time and poor customer service.
I then I wrote a business plan to secure financing. Subsequently, we established accounts with drug wholesalers like Amerisource Bergen, Care Rx (a cooperative), and McKesson. We also stocked front-end items, such as greeting cards and OTC products, health and beauty products, as well as vitamins. The technicians were screened and hired to help run the store. I helped source out the shelves.

Because it was in the D.C. area, security was top priority; therefore, we had bullet-proof windows and a narcotics safe box installed. I contacted a software vendor in Florida who installed a user-friendly software system called RX30. I have also worked with Sure Script out of Georgia and HBS Home System. In summary, assisting with the set up of these pharmacies was an exciting experience that I would greatly enjoy doing again.
Medicap / Medicine Shoppe Franchise:
I also participated in the setting up of this pharmacy, which was purchased as a franchise. They generally guide you through the opening of a franchise location. This Franchise assisted in getting your store up and running. They helped with securing a location to establishing accounts with drug wholesalers.
