Experience in polymer adhesive and thermoplastic manufacturing industry. Team oriented, creative, technically sound material science PhD seeking a position in polymer industry.

Educational background

Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering PhD Candidate (Fall 2008- present)

Washington State University, Pullman, WA Current GPA: 3.76/4

M. S. in Polymer Science and Engineering Graduated: May 2004

Skills

Polymer synthesis mainly acrylic polymers, PVC, phenolic resins, polyurethane.

Processing of polymers using single and twin screw extruders, injection molding, blow molding.

Characterization of polymers by instron (tensile test), SEM, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, viscometer

Structure property relationship of polymers.

Development of biodegradable polymer products and cost reduction of the products using suitable filler.

Polymer packaging films to prevent materials from corrosion issues.

Semiconductor (cadmium zinc telluride) crystal growth using Bridgman growth techniques and accelerated crucible rotation technique.

Measurements of semiconductors properties such as electron mobility life time (µτe) product, gamma-ray spectrum using Multi channel analyzer (MCA) and resistivity by IV equipment.

Characterization of secondary phases (inclusions/precipitates) in cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) semiconductor using IR transmission microscope, Image pro plus (Image analysis) software and scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Charge preparation for the growth of CZT crystals in a clean room.

Annealing of CZT wafers, chemical etching, fine polishing of semiconductor wafers using automatic and manual polishing machine with the help of alumina slurry, gold sputtering, Millennium slicing wire saw.

Academic projects

1) Morphology and properties of thermoplastic sugar beet pulp (TSBP) and poly (butylenes adipate –co- terepthalate) (PBAT) blends. (Aug 2008 – April 2010, started as a PhD thesis but due to funding limitations couldn’t finish, published a paper on this topic))

“Research objective of this project was to use sugar beet pulp (SBP) as a valuable product which is a waste by product in sugar industries. Initially SBP was plasticized using suitable plasticizers (water & glycerol). Plasticized SBP behaves as a thermoplastic material which was again blended and processed with PBAT using twin screw extruder.”

2) Characterization of secondary phases (SP) (Inclusion/ Precipitates) in Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductor crystals using Infra-red (IR) transmission microscope and study the effects of SP on the semiconductor crystal properties. (May 2010 - current, PhD thesis)

“Objective of this project is to characterize the secondary phases (mainly Tellurium) which are formed during CZT crystal growth. These secondary phases affect the crystal properties significantly by trapping the electrons and holes. Effect of growth parameter on formation of the secondary phases during crystal growth is also studied.”

3) Development of polymers for trandermal drug delivery systems. (August 2003 – May 2004, MS thesis)

“Main aim of this project was to develop acrylic based polymeric drug delivery system and transdermally delivery of drug into the blood stream by diffusion process through polymer. Acrylic polymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization.”

Academic courses

Polymer processing, Polymer blends, Polymer chemistry, Polymer physics, Polymer rheology, Polymer composites, polymer characterisation, Surface morphology, Chemical reaction engineering, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Transport Phenomena, Wood composite, natural fibers, solid state physics, Advance material science.

Work experience

1) Worked as an engineer (R & D and prodcution) in polymer papers limited, Faridabad, India. ( June 2004 – July 2006)

Job responsibility:

Production of PVC, polyurethane (PU), phenolic resins as adhesive for filter application.

Solving technical difficulties related to polymer synthesis.

Research and developments in polymer adhesives.

2) Executive Engineer ( R & D and production) in Harita-NTI Limited, Chennai, India. Harita- NTI is a joint venture company between Harita (TVS group of company, India) and Northern Technology International Corporation (NTIC) (USA). (Aug. 2006 to July 2007)

Job responsibility:

Processing of biodegradable polymers (PBAT, PLA etc.) using twin screw extrusion, injection molding and blow molding.

Development of new biodegradable products and their applications for Indian market.

Cost reduction of biodegradable products using suitable filler without compromising biodegradability of polymers.

Solving technical difficulties in polymer processing equipments.

Quality control of the biodegradable products and their characterization.

2) Teaching Assistant in the department of chemistry, Washington State University, Pullman, WA. (Jan 2010– May 2010)
