ST JUDE MEDICAL - SYLMAR, CA 91342 November 1992 to May 2011 Cardiac Rhythm Management Division
Sr. Test Development Engineer – Project Manager
Test development
• Responsible for development of design verification, characterization and functional testing of low voltage CMOS ASIC wafers, mixed signal IC’s, micro-electronic PCBAs, hybrids, embedded systems and RF modules for manufacturing implantable cardiac defibrillators from concept to delivery.
• Led design of ICD production and development test systems, wafer probers and test fixtures.
• Developed and debugged application test programs, instrument drivers, and test executive.
• Lead engineer for all ICD production ATE, test fixtures, operating system, test programs, software tools, IQ/OQ, procedures, documentation, training, support, calibration and maintenance.
• Perform FMEA, root cause analysis, statistical process control, yield enhancement of production data and other sustaining and change board activities in support of manufacturing operations.
Provided design change to R&D to re-layout ICD hybrid PCB assembly with pins vs. pads on 100mil spacing to allow use of ZIF socket to interface with PCBA hybrid rather than pogo pins.
Eliminated pin continuity failures due to fixturing for a scrap savings of $150,000 annually, reduced costs by $1200 per test fixture ($60,000 total), reduced retest by 18% and increased yields by 12%.
Redesigned ATE software architecture by generating libraries of common high-speed user functions for test development and created a GUI test executive structure for application test programs.
Reduced test time from 40 minutes to 22 minutes per device for a cost savings of $1.2 million per year, increasing capacity by 90% and reducing capital equipment expenditures by 50%.
Designed and built low cost mixed signal ATE for test development and manufacturing for wafer probing and PCBAs by integrating analog instruments into an Agilent Digital IC Evaluation test system.
Built and installed 25 testers onto manufacturing floor to provide capability to test new product line supporting growth from introduction to production of over 700 units per month.
Project Management
• Work with developmental project teams to provide DFT/DFM and to rapidly develop and transfer new products and capable testing solutions to production.
• Manage procurement of capital equipment expenditures, budgeting and resource allocation.
• Perform process validation of ATE systems and verification of test software and hardware.
• Manage selection and purchase of ATE systems, wafer probers, and test fixtures.
• Generate project plans, project reports, resource allocation, budgets, and schedules.
• Participate in design reviews and change board process to ensure quality standards are met.
Appointed Selection Committee Chairman to lead team of top test experts to implement Universal Tester Strategy to standardize test on a common platform across global manufacturing facilities.
Cost savings from the $8 million program generated a payback period of 5 years while providing a cost effective and reliable test solution for manufacturing test of entire ICD product portfolio.
