WORK EXPERIENCE
Structural/Civil Engineering Related
06/10 to date
CST Covers/Temcor (Gardena, CA): performed structural design including calculations, specifications, and plans for aluminum space trusses with over 200’ span. Developed Autocad 3D models of structures and structural elements to coordinate design with mechanical engineers. Performed seismic and wind analysis for the attachment of mechanical equipment to dome roof structures. Followed-up of construction documents approval processes. Performed structural observation and survey of existing tank shells. Developed and reviewed shop and erection drawings.
9/06 to 05/11
BPCE (Los Angeles, CA): performed structural design including calculations, specifications and plans for schools, multistory apartment buildings, and commercial buildings in Los Angeles area. Followed-up of construction documents approval processes for City of LA, DSA, etc. Performed structural design for upgrade and seismic retrofit of existing structures including the evaluation of post-tensioning of steel beams as a means to retrofit existing office building with increased live load conditions. Performed structural observation, reviewed shop drawings, reviewed deferred approval calculations and drawings, followed construction administration as part of EOR team and prepared as-built plans for DSA. Relevant projects:
- Norwood Elementary School multipurpose bldg (Los Angeles), 8,000 sq ft with masonry shear walls 28.5 ft ht with steel framing and steel deck roof. DSA approved.
- MEPS Office bldg (El Segundo): 33,000 sq ft, two-floor concrete tilt-up shear walls, steel framing at the 2nd floor and timber framing at the roof, 34 ft ht.
- Apartment bldg in West LA, with 37,000 residential sq ft in four floors with timber framing shear walls, 22,000 sq ft of parking with concrete elevated slab, concrete shear and retaining walls.
- Apartment bldg on Whittier Ave (Los Angeles), 25,000 sq ft residential with three-floor timber framing & 16,000 sq ft parking with concrete elevated slab, concrete shear and retaining walls.
- City Terrace (Los Angeles), 3,000 sq ft seismic retrofit of an existing unreinforced masonry building in Los Angeles County.
- Central Region Elementary School # 19 (Los Angeles), 139,000 sq ft. with steel framing and steel deck at the upper levels and concrete slab, shear and retaining walls at the parking levels. Performed construction administration related work and seismic design of diaphragms at all levels. DSA approved
10/00 to 04/02
D.H.A. (Madrid, Spain): Estimated cost of civil and structural works, designed structures for buildings and water tanks, for wastewater plants and other water transmission projects, performed hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, successfully led projects including the expansion and renewal of the Water Treatment Plant supplying water to Panama City, Panama.
09/97 to 06/98
Structures Department at Madrid Polytechnic University (Spain): Developed analysis of minimum steel required in reinforced concrete to limit crack openings. The study was instrumental for the standardized implementation of such limits in European structural codes.
