Import Dept. Coordinator
4/96-6/99
I managed 41 accounts which varied from auto parts, perishables, textiles, furniture, handicrafts, footwear, exotic items, iron & steel products, sporting goods, house wear, toys & haz-mat. Our usual procedure(s) begin with the delivery of invoices/documents from either the shipper/broker; after reviewing the documents for correct and necessary information, I classify the commodity in accordance with U. S. Customs Regulations. Transmission of information through ABI & preparation of file for presentation to ACS/USC then follows. I prepared work orders for warehousing(storage, distribution, labeling, palletizing, or any other function as required/requested by customer). During this process, constant communication with all parties involved in any of the aforementioned transactions. Necessary shipping documents were issued whenever necessary/required. Customers were provided with all necessary information for them to track their shipments. From time to time, it was necessary to address U.S. Customs regarding issues like deletions, substitutions or any other means allowed by U.S.C., via written communications addressed to our assigned Port Supervisor or Dept. in issuance. I also attended U.S. Customs sponsored seminars, whenever possible.

One year in general traffic, that consisted of distributing amongst fellow employees. Classifications according to U.S. Customs Regulations. Issued bills of lading for merchandise; forwarding & warehousing. Follow-up on past, present and future shipments for maintainability of files. Constant communication with the Mexican Shippers and Mexican Brokers regarding any and all situations having to do with the shipment.
Afterwards, I was transferred to the Chrysler Dept., in which I continued to perform the aforementioned duties, but a much larger scale, pertaining only to Chrysler commodities.
I was responsible for receiving electronic transmissions from Mexico & Detroit, twice daily. On said transmissions, we received information regarding invoices for upcoming shipments, which we would submit to U.S. Customs prior to its actual arrival at the border. After printing up the invoices, I classified them, distributed them amongst the traffic specialist & clerks for transmission to ACS/USC & await its clearance. We would also handle the shipments distribution requirements. We would also submit the 7501’s and invoice all required charges, which only the Chrysler Department did. Constant communication was maintained with the Chrysler plants and their various third party vendors. I had access to their(Chrysler’s)system, with security clearance. Follow-ups were required at all times. Whenever required, letters were submitted to U.S. Customs for corrections, additions, deletions or any other procedure necessary/allowed by U.S. Customs.
