Instrumentation Engineer

Oil tanking Odfjell Terminals Co.L.L.C. Sohar Port

The project involves construction & commissioning of oil tank pit with 12 tanks each 2000m3 with associated piping, 12 no.s product transfer pumps, fire protection system, batch controller & tank farm management system. Reading and understanding of all types of drawings to execute work as per quality and standard. Pre-installation, calibration, Pre-commissioning and loop check. Preparation of As-built drawings and test pack sheet.

Petroleum Development of Oman - Fahud Control room Up-Gradation Project

The scope is to Up-Grade the existing obsolete SPEC200 control system in 5 stations to Honeywell oriented Control system employing Foundation Field bus technology. Fire and Gas system with Morley IAS (Honeywell) smoke detection panel with individual addressable smoke detectors, Heat detectors, BGU'S, Audible alarms and conventional smoke detectors.

My prime responsibilities include Supervision of Cabinet Installation, Calibration & installation of Field instruments, demolition of old instruments, Hardware integration, testing, Loop checking, IPS Functional logic testing, Preparing Engineering documents, attending the periodic review meetings. Review and comment contractor's engineering deliverables, such as P&IDs, data sheets, instrumentation drawings, requisitions and purchase orders etc. Participate in project reviews with engineering staff on resolution of engineering projects and requests.

Monitor ongoing activities with regards to completion dates. Check completed work packs to handover, raise punch lists if appropriate and take action accordingly and monitor punch lists closeouts after handover. Review completion certificate and 'as-built' drawings. Identify resource requirements / materials / tolls/ spares / consumables/ etc. Attend meetings daily, weekly.

Petroleum Development of Oman – Solar. Ruston Gas Turbine Compressor Upgrade in Fahud B & F Station

The plant is a gathering station with two solar compressors (each 0.3 million average compression with 45 bar) for gas injection and two demag blowers each for the gas transportation to F station. The total compressor control system is upgraded with new PLC FCS system. The Allen Bradley Honeywell safety builder PLC is used for the safeguarding and Honeywell Experion is used for DCS. Bentley Nevada 3500 series used for vibration monitoring system. The scope includes complete change of old instruments with new Foundation Field bus/ smart instruments. The pre-post lube oil pump system, starter motor, fire & gas instruments, fuel gas lines are modified and rerouted. Loop check, Functional check, Commissioning, sequence test and start-up of compressors and blowers. Closely working with the vendor to familiarize the operation and maintenance of various instruments in the plant.

Petroleum Development of Oman – Mabrouk Full Facility Development Project.

Worked as an Instrument Engineer for Phase 1 & Phase 2. The plant is a gathering station with 2 production separator, 3 test separators and 3 Man Turbo gas lift compressors with each 1.2 million average compression, chemical injection skid, Receiver area, Knockout vessel & Flare. HIMA/ DELTA V PLC is used for safeguarding system. EMERSION/ DELTA V is used for DCS and Bentley Nevada 3500 is used for vibration monitoring system.

Plan and Execute E & I activities as per material and manpower availability. Study and Review AFC drawings, plans & project specs and prepare material take-off for the construction. Reading and understanding of all types drawing to execute the work as per quality, understand the drawings like-PEFS, FLD, Signal loop diagram, engineering data sheet, cable schedule and trenching details layout, hook up and junction box termination details, panel termination details. Discuss with Senior Lead Engineer, Design Engineer & Vendor regarding Design change or Control Logic Modification. Preparation of work permit and making Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for any task to be done and ensure that the work instruction have to be followed.

Check the following work such as installation of field instruments (pressure, level, temperature and flow transmitters. fire and gas detectors) in accordance with instrument datasheet and construction specs, cabling and cable tray installation, tubing of airlines. Perform loop checking functional check, Carryout logic test start-up & commissioning.

Petroleum Development of Oman - Saihrawl South Development Project

Worked as an Instrumentation Supervisor for the SRS Development project. Natural gas from the well is routed to a 3-phase separator consisting of Gas, Oil Condensate & Water. The Gas & oil separated is routed to SR-CPP for further processing. The plant has Foxboro I/A MESH DCS as its Primary Control System and Triconex as its Integrated Protective System.

Petroleum Development of Oman – Barik Depletion Compression Project

Worked as an Instrumentation Supervisor for the Barik Depletion Compression Project. The Gas reserves from the depletion wells are taken to a depletion Compressor where the gas is compressed at high pressure and sent to SR-CPP for further processing. The plant has Foxboro I/A MESH DCS implementing the Compressor Controls & Anti-Surge Controls and Honeywell as its IPS.

Petroleum Development of Oman - MLPS water injection pumps

The scope involves installation & commissioning of Instruments for three water injection pumps to increase the water injection pressure for the water injection wells in Qarnalam area.

Petroleum Development of Oman - Fahud Gas Breakthrough project

The scope is to install & commission of Choke valve, flow transmitter and temperature transmitter with VMbus RTU (V-Monitor) in 30 wells to monitor and control the crude oil flow from those wells.

My prime responsibilities includes supervise monthly & weekly maintenance trouble shooting and calibration of various instruments (pressure temperature, flow, level) different type of switches control valves and pressure gauges. Preparation and testing of logical sequence and interlocks in start-up and shutdown based on cause and effect diagram.

IPF testing of all shutdown valves checking the correct travel position whether fully open or fully close, confirm valve status as per DCS indication and visual checking of all instrument accessories and air leak for all pneumatic lines. Maintenance of fire and gas detection system like gas detectors, UV/IR detectors, Heat detectors and BGU. Trouble-shooting of Mal-functional loops, trip loops (2 out of 3 voting), status confirmation, alarm simulation and verification.
