CAREER SUMMARY

My experience includes over ** years as a cell, molecular biology and immunology Scientist with over 2 years of industry experience as Microbiologist/Assistant Technical manager. Presently working as Senior Research Scientist/Research Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University since 2007. I have multiple years of experience in cell based assays and cell culture, cell Biology, molecular biology and immunology and related analytical techniques including polymerase chain reaction, cell-based immunoassays, transfection, maintaining primary and immortalized cell lines, ELISAs, receptor binding assays and cell-based bioactivity assays, RNA isolation, genomic DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction-based methods, and other standard molecular biology techniques. Experienced in data handling/graphing software (e.g. Excel, Graph pad Prism), analyzing and interpreting data, writing reports and presenting data, data validation, using biostatistics on data, ensuring the compliance, accuracy and timeliness of the laboratory. Supervising post-doctoral fellows, research support specialists, graduate and undergraduate students. As Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston worked on mucosal immunology for over five years. Worked also on a clinical trial on diabetes. As faculty in biotechnology, established a new cell culture facility and mentored students for their research projects in immunology and cell culture. Worked in food industry for two years. Started a new quality control and microbiology laboratory. Was responsible for the production, quality control, managing and training of junior scientists. I have over fifteen years (post-PhD) experience in various other immunological, microbiological, molecular biological, biochemical techniques, cell culture, cell based assays, flow cytometry, cell isolation and stimulation, in vivo and in vitro assays, growing of virus and bacteria, ELISA, PCR, working with animal models etc.

• Lab management and Research in cell, molecular biology and immunology: Managing all aspects of the research laboratory. Conducting research in cell, molecular biology, immunology, virology, bacteriology and inflammation including animal models as well as patients based research. Also supervising post-doctoral fellows, research support people, graduate and undergraduate students in research. Compiling and analyzing research data and writing research papers for publication in peer reviewed journals.

• Anti-inflammatory drug development: Started new drug development using polyphenols (new curcumin compounds) to be developed as anti-inflammatory drugs in a rat model of type 2 diabetes and periodontitis. Successfully submitted many research proposals as Principal investigator to NIH.

• Research in Periodontitis and atherosclerosis: Conducting research to prove periodontitis as an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis. Tracking the Early Events in Atherosclerosis using Multimodal Molecular Imaging using PET/MRI to track dendritic cells in animal models.
