St. Monica Catholic Community, Santa Monica, California; February 2008 to September 2011

Served as Director of Stewardship for one of the three largest Catholic parishes in Los Angeles; Responsibilities included; 100% funding of a $3-$4,000,000 annual budget, conducting an annual campaign producing an additional $230,000 to support other organizations, creating and maintaining planned giving and legacy programs, managing nine special offertory giving campaigns per year, maintaining best practices regarding gift recording, tracking, acknowledgement, online giving and stewardship, providing leadership to a capital campaign team working to raise $27,000,000 including: 1) Campaign strategy, gift redemption, grant writing, event marketing, special group solicitation, stock donations and matching gifts programs; and 2) Financial development, serving on and providing support to the Parish Finance Council including a variety of spreadsheets, tracking mechanisms, strategy and coordinating all gift solicitation processes, coordinating the recruiting, developing, training and maintaining a base of 1500 to 2000 volunteers, coordinating the First Contact Team for new members as well as coordinating New Member Receptions.

Served as Director of Parish Development for St Peter Claver, a parish of 3,000 families; Responsibilities included a $4,200,000 Capital Campaign project to fund and construct a Preschool, Kindergarten, and Youth Center, providing leadership for the Capital Campaign; creating and making the presentation to secure an interim loan, providing onsite project management, obtaining approval from the City of SV, tracking revenue and expenses. Other responsibilities included 100% funding of a $1,000,000 annual budget, an annual campaign producing an additional $70,000 to support other non-profit organizations, managing special annual offertory giving campaigns. Other duties included event planning, administration, budget development and maintenance, and media relations as well as writing press releases.

Also responsible for expense ratio decreases from 137% to 19% over a four-year period with a 30% growth rate; other responsibilities included authoring and implementing the overall strategic plan, creating proposals and cost justifications for each of 5 individual consolidations, managing consolidations to completion, managing final combined operation. Also responsible for managing the development and implementation of a diversity marketing strategy, executing a trade show strategy that included brochures and giveaways, partnering with various diverse business groups (e.g. NAWBO, LBA, BBA, etc), developing and presenting acculturation programs to product development managers, managing the development of training materials, brochures and sales materials and interfacing with over 100 sales agents and district managers working in this market.

Chaired Fulfilling Our Dream II a $4.2 million development fund project to build a preschool, kindergarten, teen center and meeting room complex for St. Peter Claver Church (became Director of Parish Development 2004). Responsibilities included organizing and hosting fundraising dinners and receptions for key contributors, making presentations at all Masses to introduce and promote the project, conducting contribution presentations for potential contributors, coordinating the home visit activities of over 100 volunteers, coordinating all fundraising activities with “Guidance in Giving,” including mails, presentation documents, mailings, donor handouts and envelopes, etc.

Simi Valley Education Foundation; June 2001 to June 2003

Provided Leadership to the Simi Valley Education Foundation as President from June 2001 to June 2003, during which time the Foundation’s total net assets increased from $40,141.00 - $145,646.00, over $35,000 in Teachers’ Assistance Grants were distributed, the organization contributed $28,000 to the four Simi Valley High Schools for technology, we ran a successful golf tournament, which netted $21,000 and a $1 million scholarship endowment program was established.

Los Angeles Chapter, Chartered Property &Casualty Underwriters; 2000 - 2001

Served as Director of Good Works for the Los Angeles Chapter of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters; responsibilities included organizing volunteers who processed over 3500 pounds of food for the various organizations served by the Los Angeles Food Bank, sponsoring and organizing an annual Christmas party for St. Anne’s Home for Girls which raised approximately $2000 in cash and $10,000 in in-kind donations and organizing a clothing drive for “Clothes the Deal,” an organization that provides business clothing to the homeless and jobless for job interviews.

St. Peter Claver Catholic Church Dedication; September 1998

Chaired the dedication of the St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, attended by over 1,000 participants and requiring a year of planning; responsibilities included recruiting and managing the volunteer services of over 30 parish organizations, authoring the strategy and implementing the agenda for the event, coordinating the various liturgical groups (choir, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, etc.), interfacing with the media prior to and during the event, meeting with Archdiocese of Los Angeles representatives to assure the liturgical requirements and the requests of Cardinal Archbishop Roger Mahoney were fulfilled and providing frontline coordination on all three days of the event.

St. Peter Claver Parish; 1994-1998

Co-Chaired St. Peter Claver Development Fund (1996), which raised $3.0 million dollars for the construction of a new church structure; responsibilities included coordinating a series of fundraising dinners and receptions for key contributors and soliciting their pledges, planning and executing two separate ground-breaking ceremonies with more than 1,000 attendees, training, and coordinating over 300 volunteers for “Home Visit Sunday,” managed weekly reporting meetings for volunteers making home visits to parishioners, and organized a community open house for the public after the church was completed. Project was completed and fully funded 2 1/2 years ahead of schedule.
