GRADUATE ACADEMIC PROJECTS

1. ONLINE MOVIE SEARCH:

Online Movie Search Database (MSDB) project is a multitier server application. The inspiration for this project is IMDB database where users can search for movies, TV shows and other related information. Our Project is a simple version of the IMDB website where multi - users can search for movies based on movie name, star- cast and genre. The architecture is a multitier server application.

Tier 1: Client side: In the homepage each of the links are calling separate servlets. Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) was developed for the page layout and look and feel. Client can use browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.

Tier 2: Web Server: Middle tier is Glassfish/Apache Web Server that runs Servlets. Browser communicates to Servlets through HTTP Get requests. Depending on the user inputs on this Servlets, the Servlets act as RMI clients and call the RMI Server.

Tier 3: RMI Server: The RMI client (Servlets) call the RMI server and RMI server in turn has logic for making the JDBC connection to the PostgreSQL1.1 database and query the database depending on the inputs. The query result is displayed to the user through Servlets.

Tier 4: IMDB movie database: IMDB movie database is stored in PostGRESQL9.1 database. We wanted to use the IMDB server for our project but IMDB has no publicly available APIs that we could use hence we considered downloading the IMDB server using PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL is an object-relational database management system (ORDBMS), developed at the University of California at Berkeley Computer Science Department. POSTgreSQL pioneered many concepts that only became available in some commercial database systems much later. RMI server calls the database for query processing. JDBC is used for this link.

2. ONLINE TIC-TAC-TOE GAME:

This is an online Internet program that involves two users in the same tic-tac-toe game. Each user starts the game locally and operates on the local 3-by-3 tic-tac-toe window that however interacts with his/her remote counterpart’s window through the Internet, so that the two users can view the same ongoing progress in their game.

3. SHAPE MATCHING AND OBJECT RECOGNITION USING SHAPE CONTEXTS

A human being can easily identify and match shapes without much effort, but for a machine it is very difficult to identify similarities in shapes. In this project we have implemented shape matching for binary images, by following a three stage process as:

1) Solve the correspondence problem between two shapes.

2) Use the correspondence to estimate an aligning transform.

3) Compute the distance between two shapes as the sum of matching errors between corresponding points, together with a term measuring the magnitude of the aligning transformation.

4. UNIX LIKE FILESYSTEM ON OPERATING SYSTEM SIMULATOR

In this project, I built a Unix-like file system on operating system simulator.

5. TWITTER SEARCH

This mobile application project uses twitter API to query Twitter website. Application can search all the recent tweets of a particular person whose name is provided by the user in the application search textbox.
