JOB HISTORY

Contract Engineer, Northwest Aerospace Technologies, 3/11 - 1/12.

Aircraft Interior Design: Worked on various projects designing class dividers, electrical power boxes, sidewall disconnect panels, floor junction boxes, modification of existing VCC and secondary barrier installation. I generated detail, assembly, installation and tooling drawings from 3D models using INVENTOR and released them using VAULT. I also wrote engineering orders, supported manufacturing, wrote ADCNs (AUTO CAD). I was drawing checker on closets, class dividers, and interim crew rest drawings. Various platforms: 747-400, 737, A330.

Boeing, 1984 thru 2009

747-8I, IDS (IWA) (7/08 - 12/09)

I was responsible for the structural design, integration and drawing release of three side frame assemblies and all related part details. Program was very aggressively scheduled, but I was able to release all drawings on or ahead of schedule. All drawings: CATIA V4. Also PDM and IVT were used extensively.

F22/AGILE (3/07- 7/08)

I modified and updated existing ground-based and flight-worthy electronic racks, test fixtures and cockpit simulators to support movement of Avionics lab to flight line and reactivation of the FTB, an airborne flying lab. All drawings: CATIA V4.

DERIVATIVE AIRPLANES (4/04-3/07) multiple positions

Mech. Eng. design, C-40C AFRC – installation/modification of Flight Deck Avionics and Interiors. I verified aircraft physical interfaces using FLYTHRU, CATIA and REDARS to execute various design changes in support of initial releases and build issues. I was on-site engineering representative for third party modification (Greenpoint) at Goodrich in Everett which involved tracking problems, monitoring progress, coordinating engineering changes and disposition of removed parts. I was also COMSEC equipment focal point. C40B SDS – I generated new aircraft painting drawings from original BCA drawings, designed complex ducting for centrifugal air filtration system. (CATIA) C-40B – I modified rack/shelving to add a second Inmarsat system in tail cone, revised structural drawings, coordinated with stress, weights, and process groups as required.

R&D PROJECT (8/02-4/04) @ Boeing, Philadelphia through ERG as contract engineer.

I helped senior engineers modify existing landing gear, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, to a new purpose and designed associated test fixtures. I also designed structural bracketry, complex ECS ducting, wire routing. All drawings & design in CATIA V4.

DERIVATIVE AIRPLANES (3/01-2/02) Airborne Console Design.

I designed complicated airborne consoles housing communications, encryption, video and audio equipment for the C40B aircraft. I coordinated with stress, process manufacturing, and Q.A., government and shop personnel to complete design. Generated all related drawings (CATIA V4) and performed production support in Wichita representing entire design group.

SEA LAUNCH (11/00 – 3/01) Production Support

I researched a fabrication problem on PDU and Command Voter Sequencer and coordinated analysis of wave-soldered joints on payload critical circuit boards. I was a technical liaison between the analysis group in Kent and the program supporting a time-critical analysis while Launch platform was en route which prevented a launch delay. Aided solder fixture redesign effort (CATIA) alleviating fabrication problems.

F22 – AVIONIC LABS (4/92 – 10/00) (also JSF) Electrical packaging, mechanical and structural design. I designed airborne and ground lab equipment (CATIA V4 and Interleaf) for the flying test bed (F22), airborne flying lab (JSF) and Avionics Integration Laboratory (F22). Design work included cockpit simulators, radar fixtures, avionic fixtures, liquid (and air) cooling and distribution systems, ground based and airborne electronics rack and enclosures. I convinced management to convert from CADAM to CATIA (for lab design), defined system requirements and coordinated installation. Controlled group of 4 drafter/designers, scheduling and assigning work, ensured design quality, trained group in CATIA, helped define redline and formal drawing control and release requirements and procedures. I served as CATIA focal for several IPTs.

P3 – UPDATE IV (4/90-3/92)

Electronic packaging design, production support, design modification of avionic hardware and integration/installation into aircraft. Wrote test reports and analyses documenting avionics specification compliance. Performed trouble shooting of production problems encountered in existing designs.

PBA-417 and WCS (4/87-3/90)

Responsible for design and layout of circuit boards and backplanes of the Fly-by-Light flight control computer and Weapons Control system. I monitored the ECAD efforts of two subcontractors doing the first-ever use fabrication of fine line technology in Boeing.

HML (4/86-3/87)

I was package design engineer for the EMI Filter Assemblies and various pieces of test equipment.

PEACEKEEPER (2/84-3/87)

Responsible for packaging design of rack-mounted AC/DC converter, 400 Hz inverter and blower drawers. I replaced terminated contract engineer and solved substantial initial production problems.

EDUCATION

BSME (with some graduate study in composites) University of Idaho - Moscow 2/82
