Professional Experience
MediGLIDER Corporation, Austin Texas 2009 to 2012
MediGLIDER Corp develops and manufactures a highly innovative Patient Transfer Device, giving a single healthcare worker the ability to safely transfer a patient weighing up to 500 pounds.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
• Managed the color-material-finish function (selecting color standards, approving initial color matches, approving production color samples, selecting substrate colors)
• Managed tooling development for plastic mold tooling, vacuum forming tooling, and die cast tooling
• Established production supply chain for over 100 major components with eleven new suppliers
• Managed the implementation of the Disposables Program (for cross-contamination control)
o Identified the products used in the Disposables Program
o Established critical-to-function requirements, friction requirements and adhesive requirements through extensive research and testing
o Developed extensive test programs for fabric, adhesive and disinfectants.
o Developed both domestic and international sources for sheet material and adhesive
o Developed packaging for all components in the program
• Reviewed mechanical designs for functionality and manufacturability; selected suppliers and qualified manufacturing processes for thermoformed plastic covers, urethane rollers, dual-wheel casters, urethane conveyor belts, aluminum extrusions, finishes and coatings, and bumpers.
• Developed mechanical test programs; conducted mechanical impact tests using accelerometers and high-speed photography to record test results
Dell, Inc., Round Rock, Texas 2000 – 2009
Senior Engineering Consultant / Decorative Finishes Engineering (2007 – 2009)
Developed new decorative finish technologies for Consumer Notebook and Desktop computers. Identified technologies, identified suppliers, introduced finishing suppliers into ODM supply chain.
• Expanded the use of In-Mold Decoration technology on consumer notebook covers, expanding the range of finishing choices while reducing finishing cost ~ 50%.
• Introduced Fabric as a finish technology, providing a high quality product with a durable fabric in a choice of colors. Led fabric launch team to on-time, on-budget launch. Worked with fabric supplier on process development, Product Safety evaluation, and defect prevention. Result: improved yields from ~ 50% to ~ 90% during launch phase.
• Spearheaded cohesion between Dell Asia team and supplier teams significantly improving communications and increasing productivity. Result: on-time launch, and improved work-life balance for all team members.
Senior Engineering Consultant / Supplier Engineering and Quality (2005 – 2009)
Worked with Asian mechanical suppliers to ensure on-time launch and smooth production ramp.
• Led Server and Desktop chassis suppliers to improve quality procedures and establish capable processes before launch and production ramp. Result: on-time launch for all relevant products
• Developed Sub-Tier Supplier Management System, enabling suppliers to improve the quality of their entire supply chain. Reduced defects, improved product launch, and reduced costs. Received “Show Me The Quality” Award for this effort.
• Identified halogen-free plastic materials for the Environmental Affairs Halogen-Free Core Team, for reduced Chlorine and Bromine usage in mechanical components.
Senior Engineering Consultant / Displays Development (2000 – 2005)
Mechanical engineering of all computer displays. Managed seven supplier mechanical teams in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and China. Led the mechanical effort world-wide ensuring proper development, launch and production of award-winning Dell computer displays. During this time, Dell became the leading supplier of Flat Panel displays, and produced many award-winning products.
• Implemented advanced-technology stands for flat panel displays with industry-leading features (adjustability, lock-down system, detachment system with single – button release)
• Invented locking pivot mechanism, limiting height adjustment on wide-screen displays in Portrait orientation. Patent issued for this invention.
• Introduced Design For Manufacturability into the Industrial Design / Development process for improved functionality with reduced cost. Reduced costs approximately $4 million per year. Certified as Business Process Improvement (Six Sigma) Green Belt upon completion.
• Eliminated painting on displays by using deeper texture and improved gating. Reduced costs by ~ $6 million per year. Received WWP Global Excellence Award for this effort.
