Functional Expertise

Extensive technical knowledge, skills and capabilities derived from a substantial career in systems development for a diverse sales and production division utilizing the IBM AS/400, RPG and an acquired business knowledge.

- Development Hardware: Introduced to IBM systems as a night operator, then 14 years of application development on AS/400 and S/38. Working knowledge of Symbol hand-held scanners and cradles.

- Development Software: Fourteen years programming experience using RPG III, RPG IV, DDS, CL, SEU, and PDM. Seven years designing applications with MCL Designer (hand-held scanner software). Strong experience with Hawkeye, Questview. Knowledge of SQL and Free-Format RPG IV.

- Business Application Software: Gentran EDI software (PC based), Microsoft Excel/Word, Visio, Lotus Notes, familiarity with J.D. Edwards.

- Team Management: As project leader, generally managed a team of 5 to 6 employees from different departments. Kept the team apprised of project status, convened meetings as required, coordinated testing and implementation. Provided specifications and supporting documentation.

- Managed multiple systems: EDI coordinator and contact for hand-held scanners. EDI documents and scanned data were essential components of a business system ensuring timely receipt of customer orders and the return of high priority shipping information (scanned).

- Application Design: Merged programming skills with business knowledge and project requirements to achieve company objectives. Also provided software tools and modifications to assist the individual user in increasing productivity. Recognized multiple times for the quality of my work.

- Creativity and Innovation: Created programs to speed my own development time. This included a program to analyze source code, CL commands to shorten repetitive tasks, system to track daily project activity.

- Initiative: Increased system security by creating software to restrict user access during day-end process, empowered company staff by supplying a program to download AS/400 spool files (reports) for database manipulation, created an application to tailor spool-file printouts based on a list of user-specified values.

- Technical Support: Used my knowledge of production software and AS/400 technical expertise to diagnose and provide swift resolution to hardware/software problems minimizing user downtime.

- Interpersonal Skills: Interacted with every department of a 1000-employee production facility. Often received suggestions for system modifications and consulted by management for feasibility of new applications.

Programmer/Analyst - Responsible for EDI operations: created software to communicate (upload/download) with EDI software, created user menus to display data, timely transmission of data (Advance Shipment Notification/Material Release). Created report to track sales dollars for inside/outside salespersons. Investigated and resolved user problems.

Programmer Trainee, Programmer – Assigned to support the users and software needs of the supply products group. Created and maintained programs involving inventory control, warehousing, shipping/tracking via bar coding, cost accounting (purchase price variance). Wrote management reports at users' requests. Investigated and resolved user problems.

Computer Operator – Responsible for the night operations of the data processing department. These duties included tape backup, submitting and monitoring of "Day-End" programs, breakdown and distribution of reports. Responsible for training myself in RPGIII through the use of instructional tapes and manuals. Started programming part-time in September 1990.

US Marine Corps Apr 1986 to Apr 1990

Stationed in the Philippines and Camp Pendleton. Duties included office support, set up company database of enlistees and personnel information, updated battalion's training schedules.

Current Status

Seeking the next programming opportunity and staying current on RPGIV & ILE, Free Format RPG IV, Subfiles in RPG IV, and SQL/400. While I am happy to work on a contract basis, I ideally would like a position with a company where I can contribute long term and continue to develop my professional skills. I reside in Perris, CA, and am willing to relocate.
