Also applies skill in making adjustments and settings to tune-up engines, set timing, adjust brakes, or other adjustable parts using common hand or power tools and a limited range of testing equipment, e.g.; feeler gauges, circuit testers and timing lights. Supervisor, leader, or higher-grade mechanic assigns work orders or gives verbal assignments. Determines methods and techniques to use in doing the work, selects tools, and completes work with little or no check during progress and ensures settings and adjustments of parts meet specifications and requirements prescribed in technical repair manuals. Supervisor, leader, or higher-grade mechanic is available to advise on unusual problems, and check completed work for compliance with requirements and acceptability. Reviews Material Safety Data Sheets and the results of laboratory analyses to profile hazardous wastes for proper disposal. Provides technical assistance to unit and activity hazardous waste managers concerning the storage, packaging, labeling and turn-in of hazardous wastes. Conducts, coordinates, schedules and provides formal and informal hazardous waste training for units and activity HW managers. Knowledge of the chemical properties of hazardous materials and Federal and State regulations concerning the classification, packaging, labeling, transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes.
