Employment History
Operations Manager
03/2006 - 04/2012
DirectSat USA
Roanoke, VA
Responsibilities included setting goals, monitoring, and facilitating the day to day activities of a team of technicians consisting of both in-house (W2) and subcontractor (1099) technicians. The number of technicians varied from 100 - 120, being cyclical in nature. Hiring, training, and deployment was closely monitored and planned due to a window in excess of two months was necessary to plan for increased technician capacity.
Field Operations were facilitated by 4 - 9 supervisors, 2 trainers, a service manager, quality manager, fleet manager, call center manager, call center lead, and project administrator who were my direct reports. Responsibility included three management areas as defined by the FCC which covered 49 counties in Central, Southside, and Southwest Virginia and 7 counties in West Virginia.
Operations were supplied by three warehouses and logistics staff who were also under my direct report. Weekly reporting and coordination was required between this team and myself to insure inventory met projected workload, utilized FIFO, aging goals, and had minimal impact on the weekly P&L .
A local call center was utilized to track technicians, jobs, workload, customer updates, and customer issues. The call center operators and their office support personnel reported directly to me.
Weekly finance reporting was conducted through reports and conference calls to review individual concerns and goals with the corporate staff. These included all aspects of the business effecting the P&L at the local level.
Weekly performance reporting was conducted through multiple performance reports and conference calls. Performance was goal oriented on both a monthly and quarterly basis with bonuses determined by that performance. Performance at the technician level was measured by a tracking system I originally developed which was put into extensive use throughout the industry. Currently it is the basis for performance reviews, corrective actions, and pay level adjustments on a quarterly basis.

Efficient operations required the coordination of activities with the incoming, micro, and analytical labs to ensure product and commodity quality and meet release deadlines.
Developed a graphed report, providing an easy to decipher update on the production activities, efficiencies, and downtime. Provided daily graphed reports of the current, next, and previous week's production to accounting, scheduling, and management.
