Qualifications
Four years of training involving exposure to the theoretical and practical dynamics of the structural and miscellaneous steel detailing field. Four years of service as a production level detailer. I am thoroughly trained in the skills of tradition detailing. Also, I was self-employed for four years, during which time I learned the ins an outs of managing and running a small business.
I have assumed responsibility for projects involving major corporations like McDonald’s; casinos like Harrah’s in Joliet, IL; hospitals, schools and a number of churches like Our Lady of Mercy in Aurora, IL. I also count bell support beams in the Naperville Carillon and a variety of remodeling jobs both in Chicago and the suburbs as memorable projects. Other jobs that I’ve detailed have included hip roofs and curved members. I am, also, a practiced steel project manager, detailing estimator and have extensive training in job site measuring. Further, I have worked in both the concrete and electrical fields. In addition, I am familiar with AutoCAD releases 14-2006 as well as other computer graphics programs.
As a sales estimator I called subcontractors to gather bids for projects from various metal decking contractors, joist suppliers, miscellaneous metals fabricators and erectors. After gathering these quotes, I sorted through them to make sure they were complete. When the best prices for a bid were found, I checked that they would match the expected schedules for the prospective project. Along with those duties, I was responsible for preparing the structural steel estimates for small, medium and large multistory projects. I then compiled the subcontractor pricing and the structural steel price in an outlined proposal that contained all of the components necessary to provide a complete price that met the requirements and specifications of the project. Some of the projects that I provided pricing for include: Elgin Child and Family Resource Center, Peace Village / Palos Park Medical Office, The University of Illinois Post Geonomic Institute, 434 West Melrose, Aurora University Center for Collaboration in Education and the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. I am familiar with Fabtrol estimating software and I am comfortable working with others to get things done accurately and efficiently while working toward establishing the best price for projects. Also, while working at F.E. Wheaton I became a layout designer and estimator for engineered wood products. I am currently in the process of obtaining a construction management degree.
