• Worked very closely with the entire IT department to ensure all conversions were completed accurately, implemented on time and configured using the best accounting practices.

ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE

• Responsible for all aspects of corporate accounting in a company that grew from one billion to eight billion in sales through three multi-billion dollar acquisitions:

o Analyzed accounting practices of acquired companies. Recommended and then implemented best practices for all corporate accounting functions

o Consolidations

o Accounts payable – processed over 12,000 invoices weekly

o Fixed Assets – depreciation calculations for book and tax basis

o Payroll process – 55,000 weekly checks; 78,000 W-2’s; gross to net calculations; tax reporting and check distribution

o General Ledger – cost centers, profit center and companywide reporting

o Sales tax reporting – Set up Texas as a direct reporting state

o Capital project tracking – comparing budget to actual by project categories

o Vehicle regulatory reporting and compliance

o Bank reconciliations – over 25 bank accounts reconciled monthly

o Corporate tax schedule preparation – apportioned schedules for state tax purposes

• Helped create positive atmosphere in responsible departments through empowerment, open communications and establishing an atmosphere where everyone was challenged to improve their process and do their best at all times. Encouraged all direct reports to continuously improve all their processes, which resulted in the following dollar or time savings:

o Saved $500,000 per year by reducing payroll check costs by 60% by increasing direct deposit participation from 10% to over 70% in a company that has over 90% hourly employees. Implemented a sponsored pay card program to non banked employees.

o Helped develop workflow for journal entry approval process which saved numerous hours of manual approvals and complied with internal audit’s requirements

o Implemented sales tax software that eliminated manual tax determinations. This implementation saved unnecessary tax dollars being sent to state agencies

o Licensed entire rolling stock in Texas which saved thousands of dollars annually

o Scanned all garnishment court orders and expense reports directly into SAP saving multiple hours filing and eliminated the need for hundreds of file cabinets, as well as providing easy access of information

• Managed up to 110 employees and was able to coach and mentor many of them to higher positions in the department or company. Always worked on helping others to improve themselves professionally. Many employees under my direction grew substantially professionally and have been promoted to higher positions.
