Job Description:

1. Makes adequate provisions for the nursing care of patients in the unit and supervises that care.

2. Identifies nursing and nursing service problems, needing study and helps in their solution.

3. Sees that Physician’s orders are promptly carried out and properly checked.

4. Provides for and supervises the administration of treatment and medication ordered by the medical staff.

5. Provides for accurate descriptive records of the medical treatment carried out by nurses and the nursing care given to patients.

6. Arranges for the assistance required by the members of the medical staff and other professional personnel and coordinates with them in providing for the patients total care.

7. Assigns specific duties of nursing personnel, coordinates and supervises their activities.

8. Evaluates and records the quality service given by the auxiliaries and counselling them on the basis of finding.

9. Assist in the orientation of the new personnel in the unit.

10. Utilizes all opportunities to enrich the clinical experience afforded to the staff nurses and other personnel in the operational level.

11. Assists in the professional growth of all the activities and provides learning opportunities.

12. Motivates personnel to actively participate in all activities of the nursing department.

13. Carries out Administrative procedures in conformity with the hospital policies and regulation.

14. Performs other duties that may be assigned to him.

SPECIFIC:

1. Attends change shift report.

2. Visit patients as a team for the purpose of observing.

3. Monitor vital signs and sees critical and close watch.

4. Instructs and checks all patients before they go to surgery and completes the peri -operative checklist.

5. Visits all post operative patients immediately on their return to the unit.

6. Sees all emergencies immediately all reports all incidental mishaps or injuries occured in the ward.

7. Make rounds with physician and assists when examining patients.

8. Assists physicians as required in administration of treatments, in performing diagnostic tests, in dressing, etc.

9. Observe signs and symptoms and institutes remedial action when appropriate and records.

10. Reports observations to the physician.

11. Acts as liaison between patients and hospital personnel.

12. Carries out doctor’s order and examines transcriptions of accuracy.

13. Administers and charts medications and patient’s reactions to medical and nursing administrations.

14. Sees to it that equipment is in order and ready for use.

15. Discharges patient.

16. Gives health teaching.

17. Maintains good relationship with other hospital personnel.

18. Interprets hospital policies and procedures.
