Clinical Pastoral Education Chaplain Resident (4 Units of CPE) Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Los Angeles, CA (Full time, 40 hours/week plus nights and weekends on-call)

Provide multi-faith spiritual care and support to patients, families and staff; assess their spiritual and emotional needs and concerns; assist them in seeking inner peace and strength while facing illness and hospitalization; provide support for families when making critical end-of-life care decisions; Help answer patient’s spiritual questions; provide guidance on how to work through spiritual struggles; Read and/or share sacred texts; offer and provide prayer, pastoral non-anxious presence and active listening; facilitate sacramental ministry when requested; Provide information regarding patient’s spiritual needs at multidisciplinary rounds; Assist patients’ families in the decision making process of withdrawing life support, organ donation and end of life situation; Facilitate contact with patient’s personal clergy to arrange for patient visit when requested; Provide spiritual care, emotional and psychological support and pastoral presence to staff; provide staff with monthly “Tea for the Soul” time for prayer, blessings and pastoral conversation; Prepare program and facilitate Sunday morning interfaith healing prayer service during Sunday on-call duty; Provide spiritual assessment of patients and write chart notes; Serve as on-call chaplain responding to all areas of hospital for emergencies such as code blue and/or end of life situations; Attend and participate in monthly hospital ethics committee meeting and also assist patient and/or patient’s family in ethics consultation committee when requested; Attend hospital seminars, lectures and didactics on issues directly or indirectly related to spiritual care.

Accomplishments

2000 Indian Christian Assembly, Bangalore, India

Indian Pentecostal Christian Assembly that began as a small prayer group and in 2000, established as a church with about 300 members worshipping in 5 different Indian dialects and English in 2006.

2004 Lifecare Counseling Center Bangalore, India

Lifecare Counseling Center was begun in 2004 as one of the pioneer works in the field of pastoral care and counseling in Bangalore in relationship with a group of psychiatrist, Pastoral counseling professors from United Theological College, Bangalore and professional counselors following my Masters in pastoral care and counseling. This center later grew up as a center that facilitated health and healing to 5 – 7 clients every day.

2004 D.D. Pitamber Memorial Award from the Senate of Serampore University for obtaining Highest grade in the department of Pastoral Care and Counseling
