General Manager
I was responsible for the daily activities of the company’s reclamation projects and surface mining operations in Kentucky, the largest of the company’s 5 divisions. Actually helped establish surface mining as a primary company business, beginning in 2008. For surface mining operations, I was responsible for coal quality, overburden removal, safety, and reclamation. Separate company performed reclamation projects were specialized and included projects in Tennessee, as well as Kentucky. Under my management, the company received several reclamation awards from the State of Kentucky.

Operations Manager 7/03 - 2/04
Managed the daily operations generating 300,000 ton/year of clean coal. Responsibilities included a company operated unit train loadout/tipple and a contract surface mine. I coordinated all engineering and reclamation activities associated with this and other properties at idle sister companies. I was also responsible for coal quality control and blending. (Straight Creek was owned by AEI Resources, Inc. and changed its name to Horizon Natural Resources in 2002.)
Division Maintenance Manager (Horizon Natural Resources) 5/03 – 7/03
Responsible for development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program for the surface mobile equipment, unit train loadout, crusher facility, and 400 tph preparation plant. Surface mobile equipment included a 60 yd3 Marion dragline, a 56 yd3 P&H 4100 shovel, haulage trucks ranging from Caterpillar 777 to 793, Caterpillar bulldozers ranging from D8 to D11, Caterpillar front end loaders ranging from 980 to 992, Caterpillar 16G road graders, and Ingersoll Rand DM45 rotary drills.

Responsible for the daily operations of up to 6 contract underground sections, 1 contract surface mine, 2 company operated preparation plants, and 1 company operated unit train loadout for 1.5 to 2.5 million ton/year mining company. Promoted to Operations Manager 1/00. Prior to that, I assisted the General Manager with the daily operations of 9 contract underground sections, 2 contract surface mines, 2 company surface operations, 4 company preparation plants, and 2 company unit train loadouts. I also coordinated exploration activities on these properties.

Project Manager
Responsible for monitoring the activities of contract underground coal mines and was the Project Manager for the development of new mines, including excavation and the delivery of electricity to the portal. I was the Project Manager for the construction of a 400 tph and a 500 tph preparation plant and associated coal handling facilities. I was also responsible for various construction projects and was involved in the evaluation of potential mine acquisitions.

One of the surface mines was a truck and shovel operation that produced approximately 125,000 tons of coal monthly.

Engineering Manager
At this position, I was responsible for all engineering associated with starting underground and surface mining operations. This included, but was not limited to, deciding on good lease prospects, exploration, developing mining plans, obtaining mining permits, and licenses, obtaining roof control plans, ventilation plans, and monitoring the activities of contract miners. I also aided in the purchase of coal.
