RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
Was involved in the team working for ‘MICROBES’, an intercollegiate event conducted by Dept. of Microbiology in RUIA College, Mumbai.
Project involved isolating an organism from salt pan and its classification up to the genus level.
Worked on a project on ‘Biodegradation of crude oil using Pseudomonas species’ at Piramal Healthcare Ltd, VFCD, Thane for a period of 10 weeks from 18th May ’09 to 21st July ’09.
Project description: Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 strain was used for production of a biosurfactant namely ‘Rhamnolipid’. The rhamnolipid produced was extracted using suitable solvents and the extracted rhamnolipids were then detected qualitatively using Thin layer chromatography, FTIR and CTAB-MB agar plates. Also, crude oil from sewage waste water was introduced in culture flasks containing produced rhamnolipids and their degradation studied.
