Skills

I have taught pre-school through high school. During the years that I was at home with my children, I volunteered many hours working in classrooms, taking leadership roles in parent- teacher groups, and served on the Turlock Elementary School Board for six years.

I went back to school in 1988 and earned my Pupil Personnel Services credential in 1991.

My work and volunteerism in a variety of educational experiences has contributed to my preparation for many educational and counseling related jobs.

In addition to teaching children, I have taught numerous parenting classes. My counseling experiences include classroom presentations, group and individual counseling and extensive involvement in Student Study Teams, Family Success Teams and the development of Individual Educational Plans. I have initiated and developed a Character Education Program in several schools. I have also developed and taught Conflict Management Programs.

As the Healthy Start Coordinator, I developed and initiated an after school program for both elementary and middle school students. I facilitated a Collaborative team, participated in public relations activities, supervised employees, and managed a budget for a $300,000 federal grant. I have also written two grants, one that was funded in March 2001. I have extensive experience in program development for youth and families and am especially interested in prevention programs. I am a qualified trainer for Youth Asset Development, a project of Search Institute. I am also a Certified instructor for Healthy Families.

I have experience working with children with developmental disabilities and have 16 hours of graduate work in Special Education. My greatest strength is building relationships with people of all ages. I am a passionate learner and love to share with others what I have learned. I am able to successfully perform in multi-task situations, effectively supervise people, express thoughts and ideas with clarity, and I relate well with children and adults in both a teaching and counseling environment. I feel that I am a person with vision and I love a challenge.

Personal Accomplishments and Interests

My greatest accomplishments in life are my children. I have two sons, one who is in his third year of Seminary and one who died in the Texas A&M Bonfire accident in November 1999. I am married to my best friend, Dan. I also have four stepchildren and nine adorable grandchildren.

My passion is helping young people to discover their God-given gifts and

talents and to use them in a way that assists them in becoming healthy, productive adults.

I consider the work I have done in establishing counseling programs, several prevention programs, enrichment and after-school programs in schools in the United States and Africa as my greatest professional accomplishments. Through these programs, I believe that I have had a small part in helping to create change that has positively impacted children's lives.

In 1991, I was honored as the outstanding student in the Department of Education Counseling Program at California State University Stanislaus.

I have been a guest speaker for a Campus Crusade retreat for students from UC Davis, and have been a guest speaker for other church related events.

My time in Africa was the fulfillment of a dream that began when I was nine years old. Working with International students has created a desire to learn more about working with third culture kids. My experiences living and working in a foreign culture have greatly enriched my personal and professional life. I am open to new challenges and perhaps even moving into something a bit different professionally.

My hobbies include hiking, biking, reading, and cooking. I also enjoy creative writing and have a goal of writing a book.
